So a.ssuming my taxes will be here in a couple days,I plan on getting a whip. I'm not looking for no payments so that's why I'm going the Craigslist route. Maybe an auction but i dnt know much about them. Just looking for some guidance on getting a car from someone other than the dealer. Some help with things i should ask or wanna know before i purchase are greatly appreciated.

2002 Lincoln LS
-120,000 highway miles
-Asking for 2200 but I think i might try an talk em' down to 1900 if possible.
-Says it only needs a tune & "smooth transition"??(gonna inquire about that)

Main points: Is it worth it, as far as price & miles? Will i be able to get a decent trade-in value down the line? Anything yall can comment on i appreciate yall time. Thnx

Go to kbb.com type in the cars info and thats a ballpark range for what you should pay for the car and look at reviews and trade in values for the car. But my opinion i wouldn't touch it because all the people i know who owned that car only had problems with it.

appreciate it@Dre.
Just checked out kbb & they had the value at almost 3,500 more so i'm definitely gonna look into even if i just try an flip it. Think i could just re-sell it after getting the minor issues taken care? My mans girl has one, i'm gonna see what he thinks about it. Appreciate ya help bruh

I wouldn't get it if it's your daily driver... Its probably gonna have a lot of problems and he's just telling you it needs a tune up. Miles are pretty high and seems like it hasn't been fully taken care of.

Plus he's selling it way below kbb so there's probably a reason why.

The car isn't reliable and the resale value is going to be worth the amount you put into it...also does this person have previous maintenance records? If they havent done any of really important maintenance on it like timing belt and replace known parts on the car that go bad around 100k. If the seller cant answer those questions than you try to tally up how much you can offer. Also its a v8 and mpg don't equate to daily driver.

Take a mechanic with you... not some friend that knows about cars or has an idea... take a real mechanic with you...

First car i bought had a blown headgasket... Recently i bought an 02 mustang with 120xxx miles on it... But before i bought the mustang i brought my mechanic and he looked at everything carefully and test drove it... He even found a small leak on the car...

He was able to knock off a couple hundred off the price cus of it...

He said everything else was perfect and he told me the leak was real small and still worth it to get the car.... the carfax showed they had been taking it every 3000 miles for oil changes and maintenance...

So i ended up buying the mustang and everything been good since then... been a couple months and have not had any problems at all..

Transmissions are the first to go with the lincoln ls. Stronger quality engine with the v8.

based off the pictures, it is the lincoln ls v8 premium package which was a $50,000 car when it first came out.

I have a 2001 lincoln ls v8 premium(120k, Bought when it had 39K back in 2004), and the car has been to hell and back again, just need a tune-up, replace shocks & struts plus replace a few other things.

I've bought a bunch of used whips. Mostly Cadillacs.

My opinion is to stay away from used luxury cars under, say... $7,000. They look nice, but you are almost guaranteed to inherit problems, unless you buy from an old white widow in western Nebraska.

Real sh*t, I've looked real fly a couple times on the freeway, leaning on the side of my overheating Cadillac STS. That bi*ch was cleaner than a soap bubble. Ended up needing a new/rebuilt ENGINE. If you still decide to go luxury, make sure you set aside bread for repairs every month. It will keep you in motion.

If it's for a day-to-day car, and a.ssuming your budget is $2,000, find something that either has a reputation for running forever (like a Nissan or Toyota), or something that's easy as fu*k to fix (like an old school Chevy).

And get a Chilton's manual from Auto Zone. Doing your own repairs will smarten you up, and save you enough money to trick off on hoes every other weekend... Maybe some major holidays.

If you go luxury, there's only one question you have to ask yourself: How much are you willing to spend to fix somebody else's problems? Cuz that sh*t can be like having a car payment.

Good luck, bro.

if it needs smooth transition i believe means the transmission is shot and its jumping gears or it takes awhile for the gears to change... take it for a test drive on highways and on residential roads to see how it drives
