| Mitsubishi Reveals the All-New 2013 Outlander |
| By GangGreen227 - 02-09-2012, 11:39 AM - Boxden > Whipz 'n Stereos (vehicles, sound systems) ![]() That mysterious vehicle Mitsubishi was teasing recently has turned out to be the all-new 2013 Outlander crossover, which will make its official debut in just a few weeks at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Revealed today, however, in this single image, the new Outlander takes on a brand new look that Mitsubishi states will be adopted across its future model range. The latest crossover will also offer significantly improved fuel economy over the current model thanks to a raft of technology including new four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, and eventually a plug-in hybrid. The regular engines displace as little as 2.0 liters, and in the case of the diesel is paired with a turbocharger. To further boost fuel economy, the new Outlander will also benefit from a standard front-wheel drive mode (all-wheel drive will also be offered), an engine stop-start system, lightweight construction, and an eco-driving coach. However, it’s not all about economy as the Outlander gets some advanced safety technology. Some items mentioned include a Forward Collision Mitigation System, which monitors the road ahead and can automatically apply the brakes if it detects an object up front, as well as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning systems. Inside there’s said to be a glossy black instrument panel, switches decorated with silver accents, and soft-touch dashboard trim material. Third-row seating will allow seating for up to seven, and a power-operated tailgate will facilitate loading and unloading. First sales are scheduled to start in Europe this summer, after which the 2013 Outlander will be introduced to other markets, including the U.S., before the end of the year. One revealing tidbit also announced today is that Mitsubishi plans to launch a plug-in hybrid version of the new Outlander early next year. The plug-in hybrid system will be based on the system previewed in the PX-MiEV concept. The concept’s plug-in hybrid system enabled an electric-only driving range of up to 31 miles before a tiny internal combustion engine was needed to charge up its batteries. In this way the Outlander-sized concept could return a fuel economy superior to 100 mpg and performance comparable with a 3.0-liter V-6. Finally, Mitsubishi will also present a new electric vehicle concept in Geneva called the MiEV House. The lifestyle oriented concept is described as being able to maximize household energy usage. |
