How do I hook up the memory on a car CD player?

How do I hook up the memory on a car CD player?
topic by firex21 - 05-20-2008, 09:18 AM - Boxden > Whipz 'n Stereos (vehicles, sound systems)

i have a 82 cadillac fleetwood brougham and i dont know which wire is the memory wire . i put my ground wire together (black--Black) then yellow and red together on the yellow w/ a black line running through it. it works this way, but when i cut the car off then cut it back the cd player resets. should the yellow wire be the only one going on the yellow wire w/ the black line? or vice versa

you should have both a yellow and red wire. the yellow should go to yellow and red to red. red should be your power and the yellow should be your constant 12v

did you seriously hardwire your deck? did you go buy a wire harness for your car or not? it's not looking like it.

if you bought a wire harness it would give you the color codes. but it sound liek instead you just made the job 12x's harder than what it should be

yeah a wire harness for the car. if you go to just about ANY audio store they will carry wire harness's that are car specific. that will plug directly into the cars plug. the package will give you the color codes for splicing the deck into the harness. honstly your pretty SOL unless you search for the color codes for your car. i have no clue off hand what colors mean what for your car. either take it to a profession to fix your mistake or do some searching online for wiring information on your year and model car

on a 82 unless he bought it from the original owner im sure the wires were cut a long time ago, so he probably had to hardwire it, but to answer your question there is no 12volt constant. the original radio had no clock or anything like that so it had do need for a constant 12volt wire. you can do it the ghetto way and tap into your cigarette lighter wire, or you can find a 12 constant in your fuse box and buy a fusebale link with the wire coming out connect the two wire solder and heat shrink them and u now have a wire for your memory

on a 82 the orange should be your constant/memory and the yellow should be switched.

so hook the red (from the radio) to the yellow (from the car) and the yellow (from radio) to the orange...and if need to do the spkrs, its like this

wires in your dash should be:
Dark Blue: Right rear +
Light Blue: Right rear -
Brown: Left rear +
Yellow (no stripe): Left rear -
Tan: Left front +
Light gray: Left front -
Light green: Right front +
Dark green: Right front -

pink wire is the power antenna if u have one...i just hooked a deck up in a 83 last night. only reason i remember this #### lol got it written down
