| By Flying Jesus - 09-13-2012, 04:43 PM - Boxden > The TV and Movie Spot First of all I'm not. A hater, I love lot of urban movies such as Friday and two can play that game. As well as deliver us from Eva and precious was kind of unique. I have just noticed that lot of sit-coms lately are exactly the same, and whenever a all black cast makes it on the big screen ( which is rare) its some coon ish like soul plane. I dunno maybe there isn't a audience for it but I'm interested in seeing urban shows and movies in a different light then the same cookie cutter roles. |

| I was sayin' something like this in another thread. We had "South Central" the movie & the show (Larenz Tates first gig I think). Countless quality hood fliks. I dont know wtf happened. Like I said last time "American Gangster" was like our last real solid urban joint. Imo. I dont know. I could ne missing some if you wanna include that King Of Paper Chasing !! & Dough Boys. [pic] But I just find it funny how when we get a "star" black actor or actress they'll milk the !! out that sum b*tch! Lol If I see Zoe Saldana or Idris Elba in another fuhkin' movie! Lol J/k Get that money. I just want more hood fliks that are "good" | |

| Think Like A Man was a good movie. It didn't feel like it just catered to urban audiences. There was also Red Tails but i haven't seen that one yet. I heard it was so so. When you really think about it the only black actors out there now are doing it on a big level are Idris Elda, Jamie Foxx, Denzel & Anthony Mackie. And on females is Kerry Washington, Hallie Berry, Viola Davis and Zoe Saldana. that's it. Kinda sad when you realize how big hollywood is and how many movies are made every year. | |

And Denzel, Samuel Ls, and Will Smith are the go-to negros as far as some "Blockbuster" !!. And yeah, considering how big Hollywood is that truly IS some sad !!.

| I think its cuz alot of hood niccas don't go to the theaters, so they don't make movies that appeal to them really......& from my experience anytime that a bunch of them go to movies, !! is always going down either outside or in the theater | |

| Because black people are 12% of the population and people of different racial groups won't see movies with stories centered around black people. People in the industry have said so themselves. | |

| Because a lot of black sitcoms use a lot of outdated jokes and are not creative jokes or ideas. White or multiracial sitcoms have the same type of ideas but they execute it differently and have their own style. On fox/NBC they all have four-six friends or dysfunctional roommates romantic comedy's but they execute it different and have their own style(some of them.). Black comedies for example are weak because it's the same outdated jokes that was funny in 90s but are now corny. Think like a man movie was funny and a good movie but you can blame Tyler Perry for pretty much making it hard to have good movies with a all black cast. | |

"It's because it's an all-black movie. There's no major white roles in it at all…I showed it to all of them and they said, 'Nooooo. We don't know how to market a move like this.'" Lucas goes on to explain that major studios don't believe films with majority black casts do well in foreign markets quote from George Lucas on the making of red tails. If a director with a name as big as George Lucas has difficulty getting a black movie green lighted it illustrates how difficult it is to get these movies made.

| I would venture to say that it's because the "black" movies are made by white guys. White studio heads, white directors (not sure) and white writers (?). I find it so awkward when black actors in tv shows are overly stereotypical because white people for the most part don't have "black" experience. They don't know how to properly write for a black character and the black actor is so hungry to work he's not going to complain. And then you got people like Tyler perry who play up those stereotypes because he knows that's what sells. It's sad really. I've been waiting for a good black comedy or drama for years. Where's larenze Tate? Omar epps? (house don't count) and many others. I'm sure there are great black movies being shopped, but the powerful white man won't greenlight them because they don't see the profitability. I could be way off base, I don't know, but maybe these are good reasons? | |

| they don't get the same support as white shows unless it's some coon !! like The Game or House of Payne. NBC makes literally 4 white shows every fall that don't see a second season. there's no logical reason why a show with a mostly black cast couldn't get a shot or two. Beasts of the Southern Wild tho [pic] don't get blacker than that [pic] | |

Thank you. I always have this argument with people and they call me a hater. Black comedy hasn't evolved. Its like blacks won't support a sitcom unless there's niccas shucking and jiving or some cooning [pic] Look at white sitcoms from the 90's and look at them now. The style of comedy has changed so much. Look at black shows, they still using all the same formulas. These show's haven't changed with the times. There aren't any smart black sitcoms. I alway get mad that white people get The Office, Parks & Rec, Modern Family, New Girl, Louie, Always Sunny, And we get "Meet the Browns". But then again if you put a smart black sitcom on TV will niccas watch it?
