Two Years Later: Joker or Bane?
I know this topic has probably been done before but so have a million other topics in this section. So fu*k it. These are two of the great movie villains of all time so this topic will be discussed forever anyway.
My question is, who was the better villain? NOT the better acting performance. Who was the better villain, Joker in The Dark Knight or Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and why?
I give the slight edge to Joker because although Bane was actually able to defeat Batman both physically and financially, the plan and execution of Wayne's financial downfall wasn't totally his. Also, although he succeeded in one of his goals of sending Gotham into a semi-controlled anarchy, he ultimately failed in making Gotham face it's "ultimate reckoning". But you can't take away the fact that Bane actually put Batman out of commission for a while.
Joker accomplished exactly what he set out for. Fear and chaos. He had no concrete goal. He didn't want to defeat Batman. He wanted to compete with him. Batman defeated Bane and thwarted his plan. I don't feel like he actually defeated the Joker. Plus Joker operated with a group that he created, whereas Bane inherited an already powerful group. And Joker was able to ultimately take what Batman loved the most. Joker pretty much accomplished what he wanted to. Therefore I think Joker was the slightly better villain.
