Russell Brand to Show Footage of Himself Smoking Heroin in New Documentary

Russell Brand is facing his demons and confronting horrifying footage of himself smoking heroin.

In the new BBC doctumentary Russell Brand: From Addiction to Recovery, the 37-year-old British funnyman tackles the dark side of his past as he watches a clip of himself, then in his 20s, strung out on crack.

However, instead of feeling disgusted by his actions, the Brand X host admits he still yearns for the destructive lifestyle in the tell-all special.

“A proper little junkie,” Brand says to his friend Martino Sclavi as he watches the homemade video at the London’s Savoy Hotel. “This is when you know it’s a disease. It doesn’t matter that I was sat in that flat in Hackney and now I’m in the Savoy. I’m jealous of me then.”

He continues:

“It doesn’t make a difference to me. The money, the fame, the power, the secks, the women – none of it. I’d rather be a drug addict.”

The documentary, which will air in the UK late August, depicts Brand’s highs and lows as he recalls his drug-addled past. According to the Sun, it will also show footage of Brand shooting up heroin that was filmed by an unnamed friend years ago.

"The consequences of my actions affected so many people,” says the comedian, who’s been clean for almost 10 years. “Heroin is a greedy drug, it’ll take everything.

“First it’ll take your money. Then it’ll take your friends, your family, your car, your house. Then it’s going to take bits of your body. In the end I used to be scoring with people that had eyes missing, limbs missing.

“You’ll take it until it takes your life,” he adds. “It’ll take everything until the last thing and you’ll gladly give it that rather than give up drugs.”

Brand — who split from singer Katy Perry in late 2011 — got clean after spending 12 weeks at a rehab facility in 2002.
