Now, to be perfectly honest, throughout the first half of the movie, I was just liking it. It was good, the acting was amazing, but I wasn't head over heels over it. But, as the movie progressed, and we got to the last 45 minutes, it was NOTHING but a GIGANTIC payoff to everything they've ever set up in this series of films. Just an awesome and truly astounding conclusion to not just the movie, but the entire franchise. Nolan makes all the emotional beats work, "The Bat" is f*cking awesome, Selina Kyle gets to kick all kinds of[..], and that whole ending set piece just had me completely in under its spell. |
I'm still sticking with The Dark Knight Rises was the better film, but The Dark Knight is more fun, so it has more replay value to me. I felt like this one took itself even more seriously, which I really, really liked. There were things in The Dark Knight that always made me kind of cringe from the very first time I saw it, where I thought this movie was damn near perfect from start to finish. There were no cheesy lines like "No more dead cops!" or bad acting like on the boat scene.
Also, I saw it a second time yesterday, and it grew on me even more. I also was effected by the end more emotionally yesterday than my first viewing. It will be interesting to see how I feel about it on a third watch.
I also really loved the tone in the beginning. I think this one didn't hook me in as much as the last one to start, but that's because it took more to set it up, and Bane wasn't as fun to watch as The Joker. There was no pencil magic trick type scene. But the NY stock exchange scene was one of my favorites in the entire series, and that came pretty early.
