TDK allowed him to do both because it is essential a Hollywood film that allowed him to do what he does best and that is create pathology characters and psychology suffering. He could of had his cake and ate it too.

Praising sell-outs is now what's good?
[pic] @ you piggybacking everything clockwork says... like clockwork.

Out of pure curiosity, with which film did Nolan "sell-out"?

And don't just pick a random film from the list, give logical reasoning... which you constantly (have to) remind us you have.

I love it... anyone obtains commercial success these days, and their dubbed a sell-out by default. I guess no one should aspire to sell tickets, just make movies and hold on to the hope pretentious forum critics will adore.

[pic] at you thinking you're witty with that clockwork punchline.

He sold out with Inception, obviously. Then, again with the PoS TDKR. In which, these two movies you can see the decline of intelligent concern for his audience.

Focusing on Inception, what about it (particular plot-point(s), scenes, etc.?) lead you to make this statement?

The whole second half where it turns into mind-numbing glib.

So if Cobb is the unreliable narrator like you say and that's your logic, then how can an explanation of the totem occur without him even being in the scene?

What does him being in the scene matter? The movie never est@blished a reality vs non reality, it began and finished from an unreliable, unst@ble subjective reality, what we are referring to as a dream. The scenes people point to as reality hold the same 'rules' and structure of the dream world, it isn't spelled out but it's not complicated and a deep film shouldn't attempt to spell out to its viewer.

As for the losers talking, I rate him on avg a 6-7 which isnt dislike. He is nowhere near Kubrick and mentioning him is a pointless straw man that distracts a simple discussion.

I don't love or hate Nolan, when he makes a good movie, I appreciate it for what it is and move on.. But come the !! on.. Dude is not as good as Kubrick or even close.

I do think Nolan waters down his movies for public consumption, but to be successful in the box office, you almost have to do it these days.

He's got a lot of fascinating & complex themes to his movies, but the script and the overall direction he takes his movies to appeal to a broader audience can be disappointing and you could call it lazy filmmaking.
