Project X The Most Pirated Films Of 2012

A list consisting of the top ten movies pirated this year has been released, with both The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel's The Avengers making it to the top five. Hit the jump to check out the full list.

Torrent Freak has compiled a list of the top ten most pirated films in 2012, and unsurprisingly, it includes some of this year's biggest hits. Project X and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol top the list, and coming in at third and fourth places, respectively, are Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel Studios' The Avengers. Despite both movies grossing over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, the two comic book movies were illegally downloaded over eight million times each. Other titles listed include Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and Ice Age: Continental Drift. Below is the full list:

So basically if we just times the downloads by $10 (avg ticket price) , then thats how much the film company has loss + more?.

^^ not necessarily.

Some of the people who pirate movies would not go and see it in theaters even if a pirated version was not available. They might wait for DVD, borrow it from a friend, see it on tv much later, or not watch it at all.

Project X has no story line whatsoever. It's almost like a home video of kids throwing a party. Terrible movie.

Downloads are necessarily money lost. My boy sees everything in the movies and still download it later.
