Jean Cocteau is another good french director, before the new wave. Orpheus, Beauty and The Beast, and Blood of a Poet are good early surreal french films. I didn't list Orpheus and Beauty and The Beast because they are common stories though.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to catch up on these french films, the bad part is there are only few movies that are hardcoded with English text.

They usually come with an srt file (subtitle file), if not I can find links for an srt. You can watch it easily on the computer, or use a program to burn it to a dvd with subs (forget the name). If you use PS3 you can get 'AVIADDXSUBS' and it adds the subs into a .divx file which has soft subs (just click subtitles in options) that you can play.

Looks like you have to hard code them, that sucks, if your computer is fast enough do that. Otherwise get some blank DVDs or watch on the computer. [pic]

I did when you asked for laid back movies, it is more laid back than any Godard film imo. I will post the Melville collection though since its worthy.

Sometimes it !!s up, I forgot what to do. Mess with the settings or go to user reviews and try from there. [pic] I just peeped Dog Star Man the full 70 mins, movie was pretty good, the beginning and last 20 mins were nice, I need to see it again without distractions though, pure surrealism and experimental just what I am looking for. Have you seen any of the short films by Kenneth Anger? They sound similar but I haven't seen any.

Also check out the short films of Maya Deren, specifically Meshes of The Afternoon and let me know what you think.
