Ivan Reitman to Direct Football Comedy 'Draft Day' for Paramount

While the director is still waiting around to see if Ghostbusters 3 will be in his directing future, Ivan Reitman is still trying to stay busy. Last year be brought the raunchy romantic comedy No Strings Attached to the big screen, but since then we haven't heard about any new projects other than the gestating Ghostbusters 3, which Columbia might not even want him to direct. Now Deadline reports Reitman has found himself another comedy in Draft Day, a new football based project that sounds like it could be a funny version of Moneyball set up at Paramount Pictures with Reitman also producing the movie. In the script by Rajiv Joseph ("Nurse Jackie") and Scott Rothman, the story follows the general manager of the Buffalo Bills as he spends the day of the National Football League draft frantically trying to get the number one pick for his struggling team. It might not be as engrained in the world of football as Moneyball, with all the stats and figures being thrown around, but there's the same spirit, maybe without as much drama though. Both writers are new to the screenwriting game with the latter only recently selling a couple of scripts to studios, but they've known each other since their college days getting their Masters in Dramatic Writing. Sports comedies seem to be few and far between lately, at least good ones, so count me intrigued.
