Horror Hit 'Insidious' to Get Sequel

The filmmakers responsible for the "Saw" franchise are contemplating a follow-up to last year's spooky release.

Insidious, perhaps the most profitable as well as the spookiest movie of last year, is getting a sequel.

The original creative team, director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell, is in talks to return for the new film. Jason Blum will be back as producer.

The first movie starred Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as a couple who at first think their house is haunted but come to the realization it's one of their sons who is possessed. The first movie (spoiler alert!) ended with Wilson being possessed after a journey to a realm of the dead.

The movie was released in April and scared up almost $100 million worldwide on a budget of only $1.5 million.

It is unclear whether the sequel will continue the story or whether the lead actors will return. Byrne’s stock has risen since the first movie as she was part of Bridesmaids, the surprise comedy hit that has opened new doors for all its leads. She also starred in the summer 2011 tentpole X-Men: First Class.

The sequel is scheduled to go into production this year for a 2013 release.
Oren Peli and Steven Schneider, who acted as producers on the first film, will executive produce along with Brian Kavanaugh Jones.

Alliance Films is back as financier and will distribute in Canada, the U.K. (via its Momentum Pictures subsidiary) and Spain (via Aurum). FilmDistrict will release the film in the U.S., with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions distributing in the remaining international territories.

Of course, I didn't really like the movie that much but I figured it would get a sequel.

Still haven't seen the first one and I have it. I'll probably watch it this weekend.

Movie was great, until that whole "astral projection" part. Just slowed the whole movie down, and then i didn't care for some reason. Ill check out the sequel though

It can only get worse. And the first one was pretty !!ing terrible.

there were maybe 3 scary parts in the movie (kind of), other than that it sucked

Was it worse then Dream House I just watched this on Amazon instant video since I had like 20 dollars of credit and didn't see this even thought it was really wac.

The Strangers needs a sequel already

this movie was scary??? wtf

I liked insidious probably one of the best horror movies in recent years, I really liked how they incorporated astral projecting and !! it was cool.

I actually thought it was pretty good... refreshing to the dead[..] horror genre... Kind of had an old school vibe and I liked it... Liked everything about it but the end.

I swear, whatever the length of the movie was, as soon as it hit the halfway mark it just went downhill

i really liked it but i can understand how some people get turned off in the 2nd half

the movie Insidious was actually good from start till end and the ending was great....hope its as good as the first, to be honest i was glad they made a scary movie without using that shaky "found footage" bull!! like Paranormal Activity

now is this a follow up or is this more of a prequel....i wouldnt mind to see what the dad went thru as a kid

Too many cheap jump scares for my taste. I like brooding build ups it makes !! creepier. I did like the direction it going at first and I applaud them for that. People that say the 1st half of the film is better, I'd agree w/ that.
