13 Tzameti

[pic]
[pic] 13 Tzameti Trailer - YouTube

Country: France
Language: French, German and Georgian
Genre: Drama/Crime/Thriller

IMDB:

PLOT: Sebastian, a young man, has decided to follow instructions intended for someone else, without knowing where they will take him. Something else he does not know is that Gerard Dorez, a cop on a knife-edge, is tailing him. When he reaches his destination, Sebastian falls into a degenerate, clandestine world of mental chaos behind closed doors in which men gamble on the lives of others men.

Quick Overview: This movie has a really well done tone/atmosphere to it. Unlike the american remake this movie relys on more then just shock value, slick production values or violence. Great acting, good atmosphere, good cinematography, tension and direction, check it out! The Black and white also REALLY adds to the movie, some might shake there head at having to watch a black and white movie in this day and age but the B+W fits this just perfect. The american remake felt forced, while this one feels so natural and perfect

Director: Mathieu Kassovitz
Country: France and Italy
Language: French, Arabic and Corsican

Plot:The film follows three young men and their time spent in the French suburban "ghetto," over a span of twenty-four hours. Vinz, a Jew, Saïd, an Arab, and Hubert, a black boxer, have grown up in these French suburbs where high levels of diversity coupled with the racist and oppressive police force have raised tensions to a critical breaking point. During the riots that took place a night before, a police officer lost his handgun in the ensuing madness, only to leave it for Vinz to find. Now, with a newfound means to gain the respect he deserves, Vinz vows to k!ll a cop if his friend Abdel dies in the hospital, due the beating he received while in police custody.

Quick Overview: Another great movie from France and one of hte top gangster flicks around imo. You like City of God, Yakuza movies or just gangster movies in general? Check this one out, very well made. This and Une Prophete show that the French are not to be messed with when it comes to crime/gangster flicks.
Came in to post this; it's more existential than gangst.

Their love story kicks off one night when Luján and Sosa meet in the street. She's trying to save a man's life; he wants him on his client portfolio.

Gigante (aka Giant)

[pic]

[pic] Gigante - Movie Trailer - YouTube

Genre: Drama
Country: Uruguay, Argentina, Germany, Spain and Netherlands
Language: Spanish
IMDB:
PLOT: In Montevideo, Jara works the graveyard shift monitoring security cameras at a supermarket. He's about 30, solitary, quiet, and big. He watches TV, likes heavy metal, and sometimes works as a bouncer at a disco. One night he notices one of the cleaning crew, Julia; he watches her via the cameras as she works, then follows some days as she goes to an Internet café, the beach, shopping, or the movies. He stays out of her sight and never talks to her. Thinking she may be hiding somewhere in the store with a male co-worker, Jarita breaks some rules and gets suspended. Then, while watching her one evening, she meets a man. What will Jara do?

Quick Overview: A very well made chill movie that some might not enjoy as much as I did. But in the end I found it to be a very enjoyable character study. If you get a chance to see it on tv record that !! or order it from filmmovement. Another movie that really surprised me, I was expecting nothing but by the end I was extremely happy I got to see it.
