| The Happiness of the Katakuris [pic]
Director: Takashi Miike Genre: Comedy, Drama, Horror, Musical and Thriller (yes all those in one lol) Country: Japan Language: japanese PLOT: A pioneer of a man convinces his family to take advantage of news of a road soon to be built through an area of the country that can be had for next to nothing. He, his aging, but wise father, his loving and loyal wife, along with a slow-to-persuade son and a divorced daughter with toddler in hand who also happens to be the narrator, bravely move out to this new space and open a bed and breakfast. They make the place everything anyone could want, as they have so much time to work on it, since no one is making reservations to stay there. Eventually, the customers come...but each one dies while in their room and the family is trying to get rid of the evidence a.s.a.p so as not to ruin their reputation before they even get up and running. One thing leads to another and the bodies have to be moved. Quick Overview: This will not be for everyone, but it is one of the most original movies ever made. I mean its a !!ing Comedy, Horror, Musical, Thriller and Romance all mixed into one, you know its going to be nuts. One of my favorite parts is the start where it starts out as a claymation and then mixes together into a movie,etc... Funny, silly, gorey and ridicolous all at the same time. This is one family hotel you will not want to miss out on! I mean just look at the cover "A Sound Of Music mixed with Dawn of The Dead lol.

| Free Men [pic]
IMDB: Director: Ismael Ferroukhi Country: France Languag: French PLOT: In Paris during WWII, an Algerian immigrant is inspired to join the resistance by his unexpected friendship with a Jewish man. Quick Overview: Another movie starring the wonderful Tahar Rahim who was in UNE PROPHETE. If you get a chance to get this movie I reccomend it, its not very well known and did not get amazing reviews, but I really enjoyed it personally. This dude Rahim is an really impressive up and coming actor.

| High Tension [pic]
Director: Alexandre Aja Country: France Language: French and English Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller IMDB: PLOT: Alexia travels with her friend Marie to spend a couple of days with her family in their farm in the country. They arrive late and they are welcomed by Alexia's father. Late in the night, a sadistic and sick k!ller breaks into the farmhouse, slaughters Alexia's family--including their dog--and kidnaps Alexia. Marie hides from the criminal and tries to help the hysterical and frightened Alexia, chase the maniac, and disclose his identity in the end. Quick Overview: One of the few modern horror flicks that I actually enjoyed an sat threw the whole way. Most of you have seen this im sure, especially if you like both horror and foreign movies. But thought I would toss this up there just incase one or two had not seen it (someone might have already listed this im not sure if so my bad)

| Fireworks/Hanabi [pic]
Director: The Legendary Kitano Country: Japan Language: Japanese Genre: Gangster/Crim/Drama/Thriller IMDB: PLOT: Nishi is a cop whose wife is slowly dying of Leukemia. One of his partners gets shot on the job and is confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life and becomes suicidal. Nishi, feeling guilt over his partners accident, tries to help him in any way he can. At the same time, Nishi leaves the police force to spend more time with his dying wife. However, in order to do the right things for those he loves, Nishi must do wrong things. Spiraling deeper into desperation and slowly building up to tragedy. Quick Overview:Another one of my favorite crime movies! This one in some ways reminds me of Miike's Rainy Dog, in that its not violent the whole way through but only at times that it needs to be. In your face at times but at other times its very thought provoking and fairly deep. Check it out!

| Camera Buff [pic] Director: Kieslowski Language: Polish Country: Poland PLOT: Filip buys an 8mm movie camera when his first child is born. Because it's the first camera in town, he's named official photographer by the local Party boss. His horizons widen when he is sent to regional film festivals with his first works but his focus on movie making also leads to domestic strife and philosophical dilemmas. Quick Overview: This is one of those films that for me took multiple views for it to really enjoy and appreciate. At first this was my least favorite of the late Kieslowski's films, but with ever view of this I enjoyed it more and more! Some parts are happy and some are down right very sad. This guy get so pulled into this new work with the camera that it really starts to effect his family life, even without him knowing or doing it on purpose. Much more then what the plot summary sounds like in my opinion. God this in a BEST of collection and glad I did as this one was impossible to find on its own without the package it came in. ****This is actually up on youtube atm! Saw it when I was lookign for the trailer!***** *** | |

| The Man Of The Year [pic] [pic]
Genre: Crime/Drama Country: Brazil Language: Portugese IMDB: Director: Jose Henrique Fonseca PLOT: Maiquel (Murilo Benicio) has lost a bet and dyed his hair blond. This little event triggers a head-on collision with destiny in which Maiquel goes from nobody to hero to outlaw…all in 24 hours. Based on the award-winning novel by Patricia Melo "O Matador", this vibrant and brazen crime saga follows in the vein of recent Brazilian Cinema such as Vincente Amorim's Middle of the World, Walter Salles' Central Station and Fernando Meirelles' City of God. Quick Overview: Fantastic movie from Brazil, up there with City Of God and a few others as my fav movie from Brazil. While not as violent of City Of God, its still just as enjoyable to me. Good story, fantastic acting and just an overall well made movie. If you liked any movies from Brasil you should check this out! I got my copy at Film Movement and don't regret it one bit. Also watching this made me want to hit up Brazil again lol, some nice cinematography in this. Quote from a review: "Imagine if the kids of City of God lived beyond the age of fifteen and became everyday citizens. Now imagine if Quentin Tarantino was Brazilian."

| Thanks for the thread and to the thread-starter, also to the people tossin' out recommendations. Highly appreciated. As of late I've been sliding away from US films and dippin' into the foreign movie territory (which I'm started to dig - A LOT), so I'll be checkin' into some of these... | |
