David Cross Knows The 'Arrested Development' Movie Plot... And It's 'Awesome'

Fans have been clamoring for an "Arrested Development" movie ever since Fox gave the under-appreciated sitcom the ax in 2006. Creator Mitch Hurwitz and all the show's stars have said they'd be on board for a big-screen outing from the beginning.

Alas, nothing has ever materialized... and the stars have turned their attentions to other projects. Michael Cera and Jason Bateman have budding film careers, Portia de Rossi is busy promoting her new book "Unbearable Lightness," Megamind").


Still, the stars and creator can't get through a single interview without some bothersome journalist pester them about the "Arrested Development" movie. And, since MTV News is not above such things, our very own Kara Warner decided to ask Cross for some "AD" scoop when she had the opportunity to chat with him at the "Megamind" junket last week.

"Mitch wants to do it. Everybody wants to do it," Cross said. "I know what the proposed story is, and it's awesome. It's really funny." So out with it then, Cross! What's the movie going to be about? "I can't divulge anything," he smiled. "But it's kind of like: 'Oh, of course that would be the movie. Yes, that makes perfect sense.'"

Soooo... the erstwhile Tobias Funke didn't exactly drop any "Arrested Development" movie b0mbshells, but he did give us something to marinate on: What would be the most logical plot? The series finale saw Michael (Bateman) and his son George-Michael (Cera) sailing off to Cabo on Gob's (Arnett) yacht (awesomely named the "C-Word") only to find their fugitive patriarch George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) stowed away on board. As you may also recall, it also saw Maeby (Alia Shawkat) try to sell the TV rights to her family's story to Ron Howard, only to have Howard tell her he saw it as more of a movie.

So here's what I'm thinking: An "AD" movie could pick up a couple of years down the road when the rest of the fam has finally tracked down Michael, George Michael and George St. in Cabo. But they haven't been looking for them to fill the gaping holes left in their hearts by their beloved family members' absence; no, in true Bluth fashion, they need something from the trio -- in this case, their signatures to approve a movie based on the family's story. Hilarity ensues and, of course, somewhere in there Tobias finds time to blue himself.

there is a new gossipy news story giving hope to this project every other week. I will not believe that its going to happen until im in the theaters watching it.
