Dave Chappelle to do stand-up show at the Fillmore In Detroit

No joke: There's a Chappelle show happening in Detroit on Sunday.

That's right, once-hot comedian Dave Chappelle, who virtually disappeared from performing about six years ago, has scheduled a stand-up show at the Fillmore Detroit.

Tickets, $52, went on sale Thursday night through Live Nation and TicketMaster.

It has been six years since Chappelle last performed in the Motor City on Aug. 18, 2006 at the Fox Theatre. That was roughly a year after he suddenly left his Comedy Central sketch series "Chappelle's Show" during production of its third season.

"The pent-up demand from his fans is off the charts," Live Nation's Dave Clark told the Free Press on Thursday. "We couldn't be happier that he's decided to do this pop-up show at the Fillmore Detroit this Sunday."

In February 2006, Chappelle appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and explained that he decided to step away from his Comedy Central series for a variety of reasons, including burnout and loss of creative control.

In September 2006, while performing at a festival near his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Chappelle joked about the big-money contract he turned down from Comedy Central to continue producing "Chappelle's Show."

"Turns out you don't need $50 million to live around these parts, just a nice smile and a kind way about you," he said. "That's why I came back and that's why I'm staying."

Chappelle has played occasional shows during 2012, most of which were announced just a few days in advance.

In August 2011, Chappelle told San Francisco's KYLD-FM that he stepped away from the spotlight because of the fame that followed the success of "Chappelle's Show."

"It's addictive being a famous person. I don't want that to be the driving portion of my life," he said. "It was an enjoyable part of my life. It was good when it was good."

I hope he's doing a tour, he's starting off in Detroit then going to Toronto for 3 straight days.

He's driving around the country on his motorcycle and just doing shows wherever he feels like.

I think its ironic how on one of his two stand specials, he takes about being famous and how its one thing to be famous and another to be infamous, and now dave is both famous and infamous for chappelle's show.

He should return to TV.

Yeah I saw him when he was in eugene. He was just hanging around town kickin it with hippies and !!. Anyways he doesn't really have an act that he's working on. He just kinda gets on stage and riffs about random !! for about an hour. It was pretty funny though

That bastard, I think he only did like 1.5 hours here although when he was here a few years back it seemed like he was on forever

this dude just did a surprise show in Minneapolis a few weeks ago.. they announced that !! on the radio a day before he went on and it sold out in a few hours.

He took the stage at 11:30pm and was up there until 2:30am. I remember because the clock in my car said it was 2:36am when I got in.

That chick was so annoying too.
