After about a month and a half in theaters, Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight Rises has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Christopher Nolan-directed superhero epic has now grossed $431.2 million domestically and approximately $574 million internationally, for a total $1.005 billion through Sunday. This is slightly more than what The Dark Knight's $1.0003B worldwide gross back in 2008. The third and final installment in Nolan's Batman trilogy is officially the 13th film in history to surpass $1B, and only the third comic book movie to do so.

The biggest difference between The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight is that the former has been more successful overseas, but not quite as successful at the domestic box office as the latter. The Dark Knight made $533M in North America and $469.7M internationally during its theatrical run. Many believe that TDKR didn't make quite as much money in the United States due to the tragic Aurora theater shootings on July 20th.

The only other film to gross $1B worldwide this year is Marvel's The Avengers, which today has surpassed $1.5B, becoming the third highest grossing film of all time.

Because why bring it up. When every 3D movie starts doing big numbers it makes sense to bring it up. Movies like MIB3 and Amazing Spiderman were in 3D and don't match up to there previous movies, where as a movie like The Avengers makes more than those movies combined yet it still gets the same treatment because it's in 3D.

Why bring it up? .. Not everybody likes 3D but at the same time people have their own opinions stop taking everything to heart.[pic]

Yes, and the ones who don't want to watch something in 3D have that option. Where are you going with this everyone has their own opinions because whose opinion am I taking away?

Maybe you dumb !! if you did some research, instead of just replying to !! you don't understand, you would have known my comment was to the fact that the 7 highest grossing films were released 3d. Two bat films both made a bill without 3d and that is a great accoplishment. Where the !! did I say anything Bad about 3d or any remark to any particular film released in 3d

The 3-D factor is relevant because it makes that much easier for a movie that's well received or has a lot of hype to reach the $1B mark... Men in Black 3 and Spider-Man are not good examples...

Titanic hit a billion without 3D. I can't remember but I don't think LOTR or Dead Man's Chest was either. Phantom menace hit 1 billion with the re release but it just made 43 million, so maybe 8 million was actually 3D money. Is that enough research for you?
