it toyed with elements that seemed political (nuclear destruction, laws based on lies, power being returned to the people/the facade of the promised "power") but it didn't say anything. it didn't do anything with it and it didn't relate it to contemporary society. not saying that everyone has to subscribe to the same tastes as i do, or that every movie has to do that, but he named 5 cultural game-changers in the same breath as his summer blockbuster.
There are only two options:

Its fascism or just an exploitation of post 9/11 fears.

classic cult films no doubt BUT do not see how these films influenced him as far as TDKR goes....

Damn Chris Nolan became like the biggest dude on BX.

Anyway, depending on what day it is I tend to either really like TDKR or not be that impressed by it. One one hand it had some great acting, a cool villain, Hathaway was actually really good as Catwoman, and the one !!ing awesome scene where Bane destroys Batman.

But it also has the most useless 45 minutes in any film ever (the stupid !!ing pit), a not-so cool other villain that was probably completely unneccessary and made the cool villain actually seem like kind of a !!, about a dozen gaping plotholes, and the most overdone !!ing plot device of all time (a b0mb is gonna blow!) any action movie can have. And despite all that I still like it for the most part because it wrapped the trilogy up nicely and gave me a good villain to watch, but it's hard to deny the movie has more glaring flaws then most of Nolan's other work.
