Christopher Nolan Defends Angry Fans & Responds to Rush Limbaugh

Director Christopher Nolan is defending fans irate over negative reviews of "The Dark Knight Rises." While the final piece of Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy has gotten mostly positive reviews, a few critics, including The a.ssociated Press' Christy Lemire, gave it a negative review. Fan response to those critics became so venomous on the review aggregator site RottenTomatoes.com that it suspended user comments late Monday. Appearing at Wednesday's London premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises," Nolan was quick to defend fans' heated response to the reviews.

"I think the fans are very passionate about these characters the way a lot of people are very passionate. Batman's been around for over 70 years and there's a reason for that. He has a huge appeal, so I think you know people certainly respond to the character," he said.
Nolan also weighed in on conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh's contention that the villain in the movie, Bane, was an attempt to make a disparaging link to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's former company Bain Capital.

"I'm not sure how to address something that bizarre, to be honest. I really don't have an answer for it, it's a very peculiar comment to make," he said.

Morgan Freeman, who plays Lucius Fox, called the contention "ridiculous."

"Chris wrote a fictional story that didn't have any political thoughts in mind, so it's like art or something you know, it's all in the mind of the beholder," Freeman said.
Bane has been a character in the Batman comic series for many years.

You should never defend a person who wishes death on another person.

I've been saying since like a year and a half this movie was gonna be weak

People are putting this sh*t on a pedestal after Dark Knight, which honestly, wasn't as good as we thought it was fresh off Ledger's death. I rewatched this movie, it's not that great, it's a good movie, but it's not how good it was hyped to be at the time (me included, hyping it up, much to do with Ledger k!lling it and his death adding an extra aura to the film.) This film is set up for critical failure. The spineless yes men will say "great finale" etc. etc. all those clowns paid off by the movie studio, but the real critics will tell it like it is... this is going to be a disappointment. There's no way the hype will match this film, it's going to be a let down. It could still be a good film, and it probably will be, but it's going to be a let down. Count on it. Especially if it's as action heavy as reports are said. Every garbage sequel is more action heavy. That's not a good sign.

What about Bad Boys, Terminator, and the Matrix? Their sequels were action heavy and didn't suck.

But I do agree with you that this sh*t is a lil over hyped. I personally never go into these type movies expecting Oscar caliber performances. As long as its entertaining, then I'm good

It has a 87 on RT and has a sh*tload of positive reviews. how is it bad or a letdown?

he was just responding to fans on one negative review

you know how hard it is to close out a successful trilogy? Few directors have done it and succeeded. No one is asking for it to be better than TDK. we just want it to be a good movie. And clearly its a great movie.

Nolan succeeded in bringing about 3 amazing films all fresh and entertaining. It now belongs next to LOTR and the original Star Wars among trilogies.
