The Chris Evans headlining film about Marvel's Star Spangled Avenger has gone through it's first critics screening and word on the street suggests it's going to be a hit.

Late last week several critics from long-lead news outlets (movie magazines, newspapers and other print mediums) attended a screening of Captain America. Though no official reviews or opinions were shared publicly, word has gotten out that the film was unanimously approved. Surprisingly, the film was noted to be more akin to Marvel Studios' 2008 hit Iron Man as apposed to the company's other 2011 release, Thor; with some of the critics even saying The First Avenger's quality tops that of their Armored Avenger.

Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Haley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones and Neal McDonough. The film is directed by Joe Johnston and is scheduled for 2D and 3D theatrical release on July 22nd, 2011.

I enjoyed Red and The Losers. Marvel has a lot more misses than DC, imo.

Thor was decent and I bet Captain America is better than both Thor and Green Latern.

Oh damn you shut me up [pic] I forgot about all those.

Stardust wasn't trash though (critically), it just flopped.

DC/WB should not pull itself into a competition with Marvel, let me just leave it at that....They got the GOAT in Batman but they have many sub divisions and ideas that can translate to film rather than taking their old heroes and forcing them on screen in rush jobs.

Marvel as a studio can really at this point only make Marvel movies and so the focus is just on those 1 or 2 films for the year. I'm glad to see this is getting good reviews though.

Critically or financially because quality wise? Marvel has suffered its share too.

Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Blade Trinity, Wolverine, Daredevil, Ang Lee's Hulk (debatable), Punisher 89, 04 and 08, Elektra, the second Hulk (debatable too) , Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four 1 and 2 all had their issues.....and the 1990 Capt. America flick

LXG isnt DC I believe since it came out on Fox (although I cant remember if its vertigo) and Sin City as a sub-DC film was alright

I would say DC's Red, Watchmen (divided) and V for Vendetta could be debatable.

This. Red was great imo, and V for Vendetta is a classic but watchmen is quite debatable. I think the problem DC's failures have come on their larger titles but success with their minor titles.

That's because marvel releases movies, DC puts one out every like 5-6 years and besides batman they have all sucked.

nothing debatable about those 2, that hulk was !!ing amazing, and that last punisher was true to the comic....stevenson did the damn thing.

agree, punisher might not of been critically acclaimed but from a comic standpoint it was fantastic, same with both hulk movies.

sure some marvel movies might not of been huge box office successes or critically acclaimed but they were still good/great.

i enjoyed 2 out of the 3 punishers and both hulk films, but elektra, daredevil and the FF movies were !!ing "gahbage"
