actaully all those years were very worth it. what if he never decided to go the sober route and died somewhere in that 2 decade gap because of it. with that time off it seems he was able to keep his body healthy and grow to a wise old age while staying true to his responsibilities as an actor and father? husband? idk. but anyway, chill youre trippin.

If you can't see that, then you never will
what you fail to see is that being sober is itself an addiction. theres no reason why a grown person cant have a few gl a$ses of wine with a meal, or even a few drinks to get a buzz on.
as long as it doesnt take over your life, there is no issue.

respect him more for being able to overcome addiction and now enjoy alcohol in a responsible healthy manner.

No idea what you mean. I have 7 uncles on my dad's side and at least half of them are alcoholics, to varying degrees but most of them have issues with it..

Yeah, there are people who just can't drink normally, but I tried a sober program recently and strict abstinence does become kind of a compulsion in itself. Moderation and discipline are the keys, but with that said there are certain people that just need to not do it at all.
