If you're gaining an inch around the waistline during a "bulk," then maybe you should reconsider that diet you're on and the workout you're doing.

Ever thought about doing IF and bulking whilst staying lean? It's something I'm interested in trying once I drop the last bit of my weight.

my bulk started at 175, my bulk will end at 215.......if you can bulk from 175 to 215 without gaining a "inch" around your waist then props to you [pic] [pic] [pic]

How long is your bulk? Ever consider deload periods? Eating yourself into oblivion is pointless and counter productive..You can make some serious strength gains without gaining too much fat and that's basically what it is if you're gaining a lot of size in your midline - fat gain.

Not necessarily.

I went from 165 to 205 in about 2yrs. It wasn't a short (winter) bulk before summer. I was legitimately trying to get bigger. And my clothes started not fitting either.

bf % went from about 13 to about 20. Now trying to stay at 195-200 but bring that bf% down to 15% or so.

Now I could do like Ronnie and only eat a salad 4 meals a day, but I like food too much to do that.

I guess it's different if you're doing a short bulk for a couple months or so.

bulking by jus eating to eat is counter productive like dude said, you would have the same muscle growth by drinking ya protein shakes and creatine for extra nutrition instead. You gained the same amount of muscle you would have on a normal diet, you just added on about 10-15 lbs of fat by stuffing yourself everyday and not giving your body time to digest everything your putting in. Don't be a beer belly bench presser

eating 300 over my maintance isnt "stuffing my face", in my bulk i gained around 1.5 to 2lbs a month, only difference is i do slow, long bulks so im not really gaining pounds quickly, just hitting the gym hard, getting the right amount of calories and making sure my macro is in check [pic]

EDIT:

on the site it says you fast for 8 hours.....workout...eat basically a hugh meal to hit your caloric intake and then fast for another 8 hour

I don't think there is an official IF thread on Boxden. You're intended to work out fasted (usually only taking a BCAA pre-workout) and afterwards you have your biggest meal of the day. After that, you eat whatever you need to eat to get your macros in for the day. You have an eating window, most people it's 8 hours, some people do 6 hours and some even go as far as 4 hours. You determine your eating window and when it's most convenient for you to start and break your fast. I do IF while eating a low-moderate carb diet. I eat my first meal at 2pm, workout at 5pm and eat until 8pm. After 8pm I don't eat anymore until 2pm the next day. I don't work out fasted but it hasn't stopped me from losing weight in a timely manner (dropped 10 pounds this month). The broscience behind it is basically when you do IF, your body spends less time digesting food (because you're only eating for 4,6 or 8 hours) and more time burning fat. There's also the fact that your body produces more HGH when you're fasted but I don't think that's relevant at all because it probably plays little to no affect.

But people do live by IF, and have gotten great gains from doing it while staying lean. I would say if you're interested, when it's time to cut weight, give IF a try and once you're ready to bulk again, then bulk but do it with IF.

IF isn't exclusive to bulking or cutting. You can build muscle and stay lean[..]uming your caloric intake while bulking isn't too high and that you're consuming all your macros to build muscle. It isn't a diet, just an eating schedule.

if your waistline grew that much off just 300 extra calories then you should probably clean up your diet, IF isn't going to do anything for you if you're not eating right. You need to make sure your diet is clean before you worry about timing meals and what not because none of that matters if you're eating foods that are going to be counterproductive to your goals.
