Looking to do a clean cut for the first time. Tips?

Looking to do a clean cut for the first time. Tips?
By Jaguar34 - 12-17-2012, 11:14 AM - Boxden > The BX Gym - Health, Exercise, and Nutrition

After bulking up to play college sports and then cutting like most niccas and never actually losing the weight, I think my body's about ready for a cut that actually results in actual weight loss.

Currently 5'11" 191lbs in really good shape, but with a growing beer gut that my girlfriend makes me feel self-conscious about > Looking to do a clean cut for the first time. Tips? - Photo posted in The BX Gym - Health, Exercise, and Nutrition | Sign in and leave a comment below!

I've picked my FitDay account back up and I'm hitting the gym with my Army buddies to get new ideas for the next semester. I've had issues burning enough calories, so here are the programs I plan on picking up when I head back to school January 4th

Here are the programs I plan on picking up
---------------------
-Westside for Skinny Bastards (Westside for Skinny Bastards, Part III - DeFranco's Training)
-Swimming 0 to a mile (0to1650)
-Walk/jog/running 10 miles a week
-Rec Sport or fighting discipline to judge discernible progress.

For my diet I plan on eating mostly egg whites & substitute, turkey bacon, grilled chicken, rice and veggies. Also plan on blending fruits to substitute a meal. I'm reading around the stickies but could use help if anyone has it.

Also could use advice for a fighting discipline that is fun and keeps someone in shape.

Other than that, I'm just looking for tips and other info while I get in shape and prepare to officially start the program. I know Westside is actually a bulking program, but it was great for overall shape and using it at a caloric deficit will result in a cut with minimal atrophy. ...Right?

Drop the meat. Fruits, veggies and nuts.

I'm trying to avoid atrophy though. I read that fat is kind of essential when you're dieting because it keeps you full. I don't know many sources of fat besides meat [pic]

Seeds, nuts, grains and legumes. Carbs are what is going to keep you full. Fruits and veggies. Just do a lil research. A serving of almonds is about 17g of fat. Depending on the almonds. Lots of water.

Nothing wrong with meat as long as we're talking lean meats. I eat grilled chicken 3-4 times a week and am in the best shape of my life. If you eat red meat I would replace it with fish (tuna, salmon, tilapia)

Cut back on simple carbs and starches, should be getting your carbs from whole grain rice, pasta (occassionally) fruits, etc. Quinoa is great too. If you're gonna eat bread go for whole wheat or if you can afford it get Ezekiel bread since its low on the GI index, is flourless and is a complete protein.

Cut back on salt & sugar

Friendly fats are an important part of any nutrition plan. It's generally accepted that around 30% of your daily caloric intake should come from fats. Nuts, olive/canola/coconut oils, avocados, nut butters are some good options.

Drink at least a gallon of water a day

Fruits & veggies are just huge. You can't go wrong with a diet rich in leafy greens and dark berries. If you don't eat kale I suggest you look into it. Kale and avocados are probably my favorite foods right now and I eat them almost every day

Everything about meat is wrong. How they treat the animals. The fact that its k!lling the earth. Hormones, steroids they pump them with. Chemicals. Worms. On top of the fact that you have to cook it, which is k!lling most of the nutrients, including the protein most think they're getting.

Nobody likes meat. They like the chemicals, hormones, seasoning, spices, and everything we do to it to doctor it up. No one would eat meat if we had to eat it the way it was meant to be eaten. In the raw form. All bloody and !!. To each his own though. Not knocking anybody who eats it. Hell I used to. I believe in free will. And people wonder why were having all these issues nowadays.
