Are there any advandtages or disadvantages of drinking gatorade or powerade over water for say weight loss? Of course gatorade and powerade has carbs and sugars but our body needs these and they arent nearly loaded with as much sugars as sodas are. Any advice?

i was drinking gatorade when working out. i gained weight. i was so surprised so i did some research why i was gaining weight when eating healthy and drinking fruit juices and gatorade. well it turns out those fruit jucies and gatorade had to many calories which just isn good. so i drank strickly water and lost weight. 8 glasses a day. thats a glass every 2 hours. good luck

I tend to drink a lot of water when I am working out. I run track in college and one thing i have picked up along the way and one thing I see a bunch of athletes doing is drinkin pedalite. I know you prolly think it is just for babies, but it replenishes your body fast than anything out there and it is good for you. It can get a lil expensive, but it really does help me out.

Isnt gatorade just flavoured sugar water..Like the nutritional facts state that it gets all its carbs from sugar so is there anything else active in gatorade that makes it so popular?

Gatorade and Powerade both have a high amount of sodium. Powerade has a little less. And as we all know sodium is salt and salt retains water. Your muscles need water to help "lube" them. So basicly to answer your question yes sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are good for you for workouts, games, etc. But water works well too, but not as good obviously.
