Spurs' Tim Duncan sprains left ankle

SAN ANTONIO -- Spurs forward Tim Duncan sprained his left ankle Monday night against Golden State after coming down awkwardly on the foot.

X-rays were negative. Duncan did not return.

The 34-year-old All-Star fell and immediately reached for his left foot after hitting a short jumper early in the first quarter. He lay on his side, clutching his foot with both hands, for more than a minute before being helped into the locker room.

Duncan has stayed healthy all season for the NBA-best Spurs, avoiding injuries unlike recent years.

Duncan has started all but one game. That was Saturday against Charlotte -- when Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn't want to risk Duncan getting hurt on the second night of a back-to-back.

not as worried as i would be if the race was real tight. we have a nice cushion, hopefully he can get the rest he needs heading into the playoffs.

he wasnt playing all that much anyway.

as a spurs fan.. i am devastated by this injury. tiago gonna play more which is good but timmy needed to increase his minutes this last month before the playoffs so he can be ready.

as a spurs fan I am aswell, but I disgree with ur point, this dude been ready for the playoffs since week 1, u kidding me? the reg season is practice for these guys, and theyve been ready forever, I jus hope he comes back the same and we keep the #1 seed, but this could be a blessing in disguise b/c whenever we play LA we gonna need duncan, mcdyess and tiago which is good that hell be playing the next 2 weeks..but if Duncans out for the season I'll be fn devastated!

12 games left with a 7 game lead

we got la but its 2nd to last game of the season......so hopefully things will be wrapped up by then,

got some tough games coming up tho

denver, portland twice, @ memphis, boston

we need to win some of these road games coming up.

see what your saying, sometimes it's not great to limp into the postseason... last year the spurs had to win games just to secure a playoff birth lol... they were clicking at that right time and it might have been an advantage over dallas

timmy I'm not so worried about though... If anybody has to shake off some game rust in the first round of the playoffs, would rather it be him then parker or manu... tbh, wouldn't have been shocked if pop played him reduced minutes in the first round anyway...

splitter 14 boards in 26 minutes is nice to see, gs or not.... he was showing signs of proggession before he got hurt, and is doing the same after the injury... cat gonna be a huge wildcard, when and if they lock horns with LA

yea you guys are fine...let everybody talk !! but at the end of the day who is the best team in the league? spurs lol

even tho im a laker fan and i look at the standings to see if we get any closer to you guys but its just not happening [pic]

spurs are known for turning it up in the playoffs ive seen it happen so many years lol

and yea ginobili is playing the best he has in years which is gonna be !!en problem lol

i've been hoping and praying all season that we integrate the golden god into our rotation to sure up our interior defense for playoffs, especially against the bigger teams we'll be facing down the road.

i guess now pop doesn't have a choice but to play him :)

one of the big 3 getting hurt is never a good thing, but i'm hoping this is a blessing in disguise and timmy comes back 100% for PO's

what u talkin about man?... duncan been playing career-low minutes, and he was even rested the game before against dallas!!

dude just landed wierd and hurt himself - !! happens. i ain't worried.
