Report: Peyton Manning Likely To Sign To Redskins...

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Just two days after Peyton Manning was cleared by his doctors to return to playing NFL football, there’s a report regarding what team he’ll play for.


94 WIP’s Howard Eskin tweeted on Sunday that he was told by two people close to the Manning family that the Washington Redskins will make Peyton Manning their quarterback for the 2012 season, despite reports to the contrary. Eskin is in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl, where Peyton’s brother Eli is attempting to win his second Super Bowl with the New York Giants.

Manning, who has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts since they drafted him #1 overall in the 1998 draft, did not play at all during the 2011 season while he recovered from neck surgery.

The Colts are expected to draft Standford quarterback Andrew Luck with the #1 pick at the NFL draft in April. That probably makes the Colts picking up Manning’s $28 million option and the remainder of his five-year, $90 million contract unlikely. The Colts have until March 8th to make a decision on Manning. If the Colts do not pick up the option, Manning would become an unrestricted free agent.

Colts owner Jim Irsay has said that Manning has not been cleared yet by team doctors to play.
