CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Julius Peppers no longer wants a long-term contract with Carolina, saying the Panthers have ignored him this offseason.

In an interview aired Tuesday morning on Charlotte radio station WFNZ-AM, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end indicated he's irritated by the team's "silence."

Peppers says the Panthers have not had any serious discussions with his agent, Carl Carey. He says that has changed his position as he heads into free agency. Peppers had been open to a long-term deal before the start of last season, but now says that's no longer his best option.

The Panthers have declined to comment on their plans for Peppers, the franchise's career sacks leader. Carolina paid him an NFL-high $18.2 million last season under the franchise tag.

Posssibly, but he got franchised and once you do that a team has to pay you the average of the top three or maybe it's five players at your position in the league.

peppers is good but with an uncapped year there is almost no way he can live up to the contract he'll get.I wanted him on the niners but f**k that with the contract it will take...going to be bigger then haynesworth's

I wouldn't want him on the Patriots. He's going to cost too much. If he was smart, he'd just take less money and get a ring

he got franchised last year, and he was the highest paid DE in the game, Carolina cannot afford him anymore, so they are making a financial move not signing him back to they can address more important needs with the money they will be saving. Plenty of contenders can jump at this opportunity for a premiere DE.

Sorry Eagles fans, y'all had chances of bringing in star quality players such as Tony Gonzalez the Eagles front office people don't try to push the issue for obtaining people to the the teams better as we seen in the past. With the uncapped year, the amount he will be asking for is way out of reach, unless they give up some picks and a few players

Peppers is exactly what the Jets covet this offseason. I wonder if Woody will open the checkbook once again, as MikeT has shown he's willing to sign some big time FA's in the past 2 offseasons.

That Jets D would indeed be Super Bowl calibur.

Come to Houston Pep...

With Super Mario and Peppers on our ends and Okoye getting better as he gets older our line is gonna beast next year...

And we would still have Cushing and Demeco for our linebacker core... That would be a dream

Peace the f**k out... @ the team willing to pay him probably a contract that is going to be OVER 90 million dollars for a dude that is going to be over 30...Carolina is stupid but they aren't going to f**k up twice seeing that they f**ked up one time with Jake Delhomme...

I was dying when I was reading about this and saw

After being held to a career-low 2.5 sacks in 2007, the Panthers still offered to make Peppers the NFL's highest-paid defensive player. Peppers on Tuesday provided conflicting reasons on why he rejected the contract.

"That deal was to make me the highest-paid defensive player, but slightly, very slightly," Peppers said. "I didn't really feel the sincerity behind that deal."

But later in the rambling answer during the radio interview, Peppers also indicated that he wasn't worthy of such a deal.

"I had 2.5 sacks that season, and they're coming to offer me being the highest-paid defensive player. Like, I can't even accept that," Peppers said. "I'm not deserving of that."
Niggas a f**king idiot.
