The Minnesota Vikings could have one high-profile backup running back.

LaDainian Tomlinson is going to visit the team on Thursday, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. SI.com first reported the visit.

Tomlinson was released by the San Diego Chargers last week and has scheduled a number of visits with potential teams.

Tomlinson ranks eighth on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. His 138 career rushing touchdowns rank second, and his 153 total touchdowns rank third.

Tomlinson, who turned 30 last summer, was injured early in the 2009 season and finished with 730 yards on 223 carries for an average of 3.3 yards per carry, all career lows. He became less and less the face of the Chargers as his role was reduced in a pass-happy offense.

He wouldn't be the face of the Vikings either, however, with Adrian Peterson making the Pro Bowl in his first three seasons in the league. But the Vikings did lose free agent Chester Taylor to the Chicago Bears this offseason, creating a lack of depth in the backfield.

The Vikings do not yet know if quarterback Brett Favre will return to the team that went 12-4 and lost to eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans in the second round of the playoffs.

Tomlinson has said that his priority now is to win a title, something he didn't do in San Diego.

"This is not the end of the road at all," he said last week. "I'm not retiring. So I am very excited. I really believe I am going to have that opportunity to win a championship."

Don't care what anybody says. Would be a huge pickup as a 3rd down back now that we lost Taylor.

if LT signs favre better get off that bulls**t and say he's coming back ASAP even though it's pretty much written on the wall that he is.

If LT were to miraculously join the Vikes squad I'm willing to bet number 4 returns for one more.

I thought he wanted to star for a contending team not be the 3rd option for a contending team

Either way, it would be a good pickup. LT is a very good RB coming out of the backfield. This wouldn't be a huge reason why Favre would come back IMO. That Vikings team was already stacked and they only f**ked themselves up against the Saints. Take away 4 of those 6 turnovers and they would've been in the SB

imo, it's hard not to pull for LT, but u have to wonder what he can really bring to the table right now.... I give him props for taking himself out of the game for sproles on a 3rd down passing play wich worked out... took some sacrificing of your competitive juices, but at the same point, it looked like he was conceiving..... could be that san diegos offensive line was the problem, but imo

if anything he won't be a distraction, just sucks watching former great players steadily declining.... thats the nature of the beast as a nfl back though... wish the best for him, but skeptikal of what he can do, even as a secondary and 3rd down back

How Minnesota transformed into a high profile Free Agent Destination is beyond me, however, I'd be happy to see LT on a team with a chance.

maybe he can show AP how to hold on to the f**king ball

Since being in the league AP has coughed up the rock 20 times, in that same period, LT has only fumbled 3 times.
