Lakers waive Andrew Goudelock

The Los Angeles Lakers waived second-year guard Andrew Goudelock on Saturday, trimming their roster to 15 players.

The former second-round pick from the College of Charleston became something of a fan favorite last season, earning the nickname "Mini Mamba" from teammate Kobe Bryant for his ability to come off the bench and score quickly and in bunches. He averaged 4.4 points in 10.5 minutes a game in 40 games as a rookie.

But Goudelock became expendable when the Lakers acquired point guard Chris Duhon from Orlando in the trade that brought Dwight Howard to Los Angeles this summer. A bit undersized to play shooting guard, Lakers coach Mike Brown tried Goudelock as a point guard during the preseason. But with Duhon, Steve Blake and fellow second-year man Darius Morris ahead of him in the rotation, it was an uphill battle for him to earn a roster spot.

The Lakers have 13 players on guaranteed contracts. Only this year's second-round picks -- center Robert Sacre and guard Darius Johnson-Odom -- remain in camp. The organization has until Monday to decide whether to keep one or both of them.

Morris is trash!

Yes Goudeluck is undersized as a SG but the kid was offensively nice! Hitting 3's and floaters and getting in the paint with ease.

saw like 3 of his games in college, he put up 35-45 in each game. I thought he was just what the lakers needed, hopefully he gets picked up by a team that will give him the minutes to show his talent.

goudelock and darius johnson odom both fill the same type of role for the lakers. mitch must like odom more. i like odom more too because he is more athletic and a better defender. not to mention odom is cheaper. plus we have meeks which makes goudelock that much more expendable. sad to see goudelock go. he has promise. another team will pick him up.

point guard is our weakest position as far as backups are concerned. mitch is keeping all the point guards on the roster hoping one of them will overtake blake for the backup role, but that probably ain't happening.

Goldie my nicca I hate it had to be him...but I hope we make a move to get Q-Rich if he clears waivers. He'll give us some depth at the 3 and Nash had him on borderline all-star status in PHX.
