Jones-Drew: All-Time rushing mark is “doable”

While Maurice Jones-Drew waits on receiving a new, possible record running back, contract from the Jacksonville Jaguars, he is thinking about a different type of record. Jones-Drew thinks that the all-time rushing record set my Emmitt Smith is “doable”. While talking to 102.3 The Ticket in Denver Jones-Drew said, “Emmitt Smith was in a different situation than a lot of us, though. I mean, he had a Hall of Fame receiver, Hall of Fame quarterback, Hall of Fame offensive line, Hall of Fame fullback. Whoever put that team together did a heck of a job, and it just showed.”

Jones-Drew is 11,502 rushing yards away from tying the all-time record set by Smith in 2002. He is currently 55th on the all-time rushing list with 6,854 yards. He is currently seeking a new contract from the Jaguars and if he plans on sitting out for a new contract, he will miss precious time he could spend trying to break the record.

While in Denver Jones-Drew also talked about the contract situation, “It’s the business side of football,” Jones-Drew said. “And every player is a businessman, and whatever you feel is best for you and your family, you have to do that sometimes. And so, like I said before, hopefully we can work on something and get something done. But I can’t talk about it in the media, because that’s not how I handle my business. I’d rather do it face-to-face, and that’s just what it is. It’s the side that we don’t like about the football game — it’s not Pop Warner anymore, where it’s just show up on Saturday mornings and have a good time. In the offseason, it’s business. So that’s just where we are right now.”

Yeah but he still puts up great numbers lol... but our offense has been so anemic hes barely given opportunities to do so.

Do need his[..] in camp because its been pretty steady for a few years that if you hold out and miss camp youre going to be[..] or get hurt.

He was a beast for my fantasy teams last year. Even if he didn't score, he was almost guranteed to have over 100 yards.

So was Fred Taylor. Jax been spoiled by good RBs. Too bad they haven't had a QB since Brunell, that knee injury really hurt his career. He was going to be the next Steve Young.

Gabbert's got weapons this year though, and actual coaches to teach him with footwork.

One of the Jag's insider dudes said he would watch practices and look over at the QBs and they would just be tossing the ball back and forth, joking around laughing because the coaches didn't give a !!. This year in camp so far he said it's like night and day. Had him running footwork drills, picking apart his mistakes, etc. He'll improve, don't know if he'll be good, but he'll improve from last year, in which he was garbage.

That record isn't really "doable" he didn't put up enough yardage in his first three years. Once he gets older his numbers are really gonna fall.

That's gotta be one of the records that might never be broken....

A running back would have to average 1500/season for over ten years...Then still have a team letting him get enough carries to get about 800 a season for a few more years.....It's a different league then the 90's...Pass heavy...Even the teams that do run more have more than one back to share the carries..

Emmitt was a beast to last that long and take all those hits and still play at a pretty high level...
