Jerry Buss May Help The Kings Stay In Sacramento
topic by Flacco Da Gawd - 04-14-2011, 02:15 PM

I continue to hear that Jerry Buss’ attempts to block the Kings’ move to Anaheim is gaining traction with his fellow owners. Buss is the old lion of the NBA, and as as owner of the Lakers, wields tremendous influence with his colleagues. Two things are happening: (1) The owners are increasingly concerned about the Maloofs’ longterm financial st@bility and (2) No one seems thrilled about the Anaheim destination. As one high-ranking NBA source reminded me more than a year ago, there just aren’t a lot of desirable markets remaining for NBA franchises. Southern California is crowded. Seattle doesn’t have a building. Kansas City has the sparkling Sprint Center but has too much competition with the Chiefs, Royals and college sports. Las Vegas scares everyone (and has no building). And with a potential lockout looming? The Board of Governors meeting should be interesting.

Here's another article..

Kings Anaheim Relocation Could Be Influenced By Lakers' Jerry Buss

by Evan Dunlap

The Los Angeles Lakers will officially end the Kings’ season, and perhaps their entire tenure in Sacramento, Wednesday night at Power Balance Pavilion. It is thus oddly appropriate that Lakers owner Jerry Buss will play a key role in evaluating the Kings’ potential move to Anaheim.

Tom Ziller of SB Nation has learned that Buss, the Lakers’ patriarch, is a member of the league’s relocation committee, responsible for reviewing all relocation and arena proposals on the league’s behalf. The committee also includes Mickey Arison (Heat), Peter Holt (Spurs), Herb Simon (Pacers), Ed Snider (76ers), and two other team owners whose identities Ziller was unable to learn.

It’s likely that Buss’ opposition stems not from principle, but rather because he stands to lose an estimated half-billion dollars in television revenue should the Kings move to the Anaheim market, which is far more lucrative than Sacramento.

If Buss cannot persuade the league’s Board of Governors to vote against the Kings’ move, he can push for it to at least impose a steep relocation fee on the Maloof brothers, who own the Kings.

Make that #### happen! @ the Magoofs trying to tread into Lakers country.

Just let them move if that's what they want. I don't know why there the opposition. Anaheim is not that close to LA

I also read elsewhere that the Warriors may also be blocking the move, because they don't want a precedence set for teams moving into others area. There has already been talks of a team moving into San Jose and they don't want that aided by this move.

And yea, Anaheim is pretty damn close to LA.
