I can sit here and state all the facts in the world. So can you. Bottom line is neither of us really know how are team will do. Matsuzaka could win 20 games, Pettitte could !!ing tank, we could sign the Rocket. Neither of us know. I'll wait till the season starts to start talking !!. Because many teams have looked good on paper and haven't done !!. AKA your team last year probably had the best hitting lineup I have ever seen and lost to Detroit when they were 2 games up. So whatever, !! happens.

Sheffield and Matsui got hurt, we had a bad rotation(just Mussina and Wang), and a crappy bullpen for most of the year and still won 90 something games. Plus Sheffield rushing back and Matsui rushing back didn't help matters either. But I won't make any excuses, it's a new season and I can't wait to crown a 2007 Yankees WS Champs.

i don't have energy to get into who is/will be the better team

all i wanted to say is why do the sox complain that manny is unmovable at 20 mill a season and then sign jd drew to this rediculous contract....
oh well, it's not my money so i really dont mind them spending that much

Moving Papelbon to the starting rotation was a health move. After he sort of broke down towards the end of the season, they felt that it was better for him in the long run to move to the rotation. Something about his shoulder couldn't take the stress of not pitching on a regular schedule for an entire season.

so pitching almost 200 innings is better than pitching 80 something innings? No matter what way you look at it, the #'s Papelchoke put up last season were amazing. Can't wait to see how many blown saves the Sox give up next season.

that's a weird a#s excuse...never heard of someone saying pitching MORE innings would be better for a bad shoulder

Well yeah, if you just look at it from the standpoint of it's more innings as a starter, it seems odd. But from what I've read, they feel that being on a consistent schedule will help his shoulder. Rather than pitching one night, pitching the next, than possibly not pitching again for a few nights, and then pitching a few more nights in a row. From what I've heard, they feel that a consistent schedule will help his shoulder hold up, even if it means he throws more innings.

Papelbon as a starter won't win more than 13 games in the AL EAST. And that ERA won't be under 1.00, more like over 4.00

I dont mind the signing, I think if healthy he will be a really good player, esp considering how good his protection will be and the people on base infront of him.

I really hope Coco and him can stay healthy. Its a big IF, but your not gonna find corner outfields with that skill level alot so !! it.

IF he stays healthy...in 8 years (7 if you don't count his 1st year) he's only played 140 games of more twice...he's an injury waiting to happen and so is crisp...

that's why I don't get the signing...paid him a lot and went pretty long term for someone who might be out for 1/3 of the contract

Yeah I cant understand the length, I mean I understand if you wanna give him a big 3 year contract, with the same clauses at the same money. But the length of that contract for any player over a certain age is always a concern.

Whatever the Redsox have alot of concerns coming in, I always said I dont care if they sign Jimmy the cripple to a 100 million as long as they dont trade Manny.

I also think the Redsox fans that are making this seem like the greatest thing are dumb, same goes for people that are already acting like hes injured and hes not a good player. Lets just wait it out.

Being a starter is less taxing on the arm than being a closer. You get regular rest, and can stay on routine. That's why such a major part of being a MLB manager is managing the bullpen.

"Smoltz is used to the routine by now. Every time a Braves closer struggles, internet bloggers and talk-show callers suggest that Smoltz could better serve the Braves in the closer role.

He begs to differ, and not only because he believes his right elbow, which has had four surgeries, is better suited to the regular schedule of starting."

I guess it depends on the team...the yanks don't use mariano for more than 1 inning unless absolutely necessary and there were games last year we used him for no reason because he hadn't pitched in like a week and a half [pic]

Well, Mariano is different. And the situations where Mariano isn't used for a week is an exception, too.

Torre does at times seem to over-work other relievers, probably because he just trusts them more than others. It seems like Scott Proctor pitched every other game last year.

When you see relivers struggle in the second half of the year, the amount of work they put in may be the reason...

I make one mistake and I don't know !!? You're funny man. Either way an experienced team full of power hitters got worked by an average Detroit team. Here we go again arguing about the Yankees & Redsox. You guys always win the AL East. It's nothing new, but what have the Yankees done with it in the last 6 years? Nothing. A lot of people are going on what ifs and maybe's right now, when no one really knows for sure who will do what.
