Heat, Spurs Discussing Andray Blatche

 Heat, Spurs Discussing Andray Blatche

ESPN's Marc Stein reports (via Twitter) that the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs are two of the teams that have expressed interest in signing Andray Blatche. Blatche was waived by the Washington Wizards on July 17 using the amnesty clause. No team placed a bid on the remaining three years and approximately $23.4MM on his contract, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.

Blatche, 25, averaged 8.5 PPG and 5.8 RPG for the Wizards during the 2011/12 season. He appeared in just 26 games during the season, in which he battled various injuries.

one of those 2 teams are going to be happy to have his hunger for a triple double.

I dropped the news about the Spurs wanting him the last two seasons in a few threads. The problem was they couldn't get a trade worked out that they agreed with. Now that he is free to sign with whoever and they don't lose anything they will get him. [pic]

Miami is really interested in him? [pic]

From 2007:

I’m reminded of an episode from last season. We were in Miami. Pregame. Jamison walks into the locker room fresh from a round of lifting weights and getting up extra shots. He spots Andray sitting in front of his locker stall munching down a plate of nachos and generally sporting the look of a guy getting ready to watch a game rather than play in one.

Antawn, looking down at Andray: “You have a $16 million contract already or did I miss something?”

Andray offers a blank expression but knows where this is going.

Antawn: “You came over on the second bus right? I’ve never come over on the second bus. I’m a vet but I always come over on the first bus, don’t I?”

(Translation: Teams typically roll from the team hotel to the arena in two groups. The first group usually consists of guys who want to get settled early, take extra shots when the court isn’t so full and lift weights. Jamison is always on the first bus.)

Andray: “I got extra shots up at shootaround.”

Antawn just shook his head and started getting ready for the game.

He'll go to the spurs and become a perfect role player like every bum that goes over there does [pic]

when Blatche puts it all together when he cares, he is a double-double machine, I think he could fit into the Heat as another big body that can score and grab boards, just a liability of defense though.

I fully expect he will be the starter next to Duncan at some point. I've always said the dude can play but the situation in Washington was never the best thing for him especially considering he was hitting the NBA out of high school.

Under Pop and Timmy's tutelage the next year or so and being just 25 he can have a solid ten more years left in the league.

The same could be said if he were to end up on a team like Boston, Miami or Lakers

teams need to shut this dude out for a year or two. maybe he'd finally get some heart once he gets another chance

blatche never really acted like a young guy, he carried his self like someone who was already a super start since he got here.

thats why a vet locker room won't make him play better.

i remember when the coaches and vets started yelling at him b4 a game and he decided to sit the the whole game out[pic]

and we ended up getting blown out[pic]
Even IF that MIGHT be true he's still lazy & unmotivated.

I would agree with that if there had been somebody who excelled with the Wizards or even showed some "heart". Nobody really got or gets better as a Wizard. The dude came from high school into a terrible franchise with no leaders to help him learn what being a good NBA player and veteran is all about. They have a long history of guys who got way better after leaving there. Your franchise benefited from two of them in Rip and Ben. !! you could even count Sheed and Mayce too[pic]

he averaged 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds & 1.5 steals on 44.5 % shooting in 2010-11

and he's only 25 years old & 6'11"

he'd be a good addition

he wouldn't be leaned upon or asked to do much

he'd just be another guy

I feel you.... everything u said makes logical sense... Sure he will learn to act like a grown man playing in SA, but HEART is something you can't mold though... You seen first hand how role players ball out during the regular season in SA, only to fold like lawn chairs when they face adversity in the postseason...

Having a PF that is a threat to hit a mid range shot, would be a nice/different addition... The spurs pick n roll is mad predictable with blair and splitter since their no threat to do anything but roll to the basket... Oklahoma exposed it a bit in the postseason... options are limited at this point, so not opposed to the move.... Lorbek looks like he is staying overseas anyway
