Grizzlies fail to lock up Gay

Fourth-year forward Rudy Gay and the Grizzlies failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension before the NBA deadline. Negotiations broke off Monday evening so Gay will become a restricted free agent next summer. The Griz still can match any offer sheet Gay signs. An NBA source said the Grizzlies' final offer was a five-year deal worth about $50 million. Gay was asking for a deal similar to Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge (five years, $65 million with incentives), according to the source.

imo rudy been a bit of a dissapointment in my eyes... he kinda soft at times, exspecially on the defense side of the ball takes a lot of silly shots.... plus him and majo are kinda the same kind of player.... just seems like an above averege scorer.... don't know if he's worth the investment... at least for memphis anyway

Rudy can ball, he'd be one of the better SF's in the league if he wasn't in Memphis. Wouldn't give him 65million though, 5years/50million sounds about right.

Rudy Gay is talent guy but inconsistent if i was gm i wouldn't know what to do with him either sign him or test free agent with another player because Mayo is the number one player on that team

Rudy gay lacks a good work ethic...Oj is a better defender and just as talened a scorer..and apparently a better leader as OJ was upset with the lack of defense played by his team in some of their losses...Rudy took offense to that ..

He's not a sg, his best position is sf.

But, if Gay was on a team that had money to blow like Portland he would've gotten similar money. But, he plays for the small market Grizzlies, who are struggling to get fans to the games and aren't a winning team to get playoff revenue. So, he is f**ked.
If he has a good year and they get close to the 8 spot then some team in need of a SF will come throw that bread his way.
I'm thinking the Knicks, Nets, Miami, or Chicago will come after him. It wouldn't shock me if the Celtics use the Ray Allen money to sign him.

Maybe the Grizz can go get Stephen Jackson and a pick for Gay. I say they should become the most dysfuctional team in the league
