Almost two months ago, we brought the exciting news that former two-time UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir would cross promotional boundaries to face Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier. The inter-promotional fight was the first of its kind despite the UFC/Strikeforce merger happening over a year ago.

Unfortunately, rumors surfaced Tuesday night that the former UFC champ suffered an injury forcing him from the bout. MMA Junkie confirmed the rumors:

MMAjunkie.com (mmajunkie.com) confirmed the news on Tuesday night with a source close to the promotion following an initial report from news show Sports Rage. It's unknown whether a replacement for Mir has been found.

This was a very anticipated match up between two of the sports most talented heavyweights. Even with Cormier's bout in doubt, the Strikeforce card is still enticing with Luke Rockhold's second Middleweight title defense against Lorenz Larkin. Former Olympian Sara McMann will also make her promotional debut. The event will take place on November 3 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, OK.

Funny how injuries didn't happen this much before the UFC got insurance for the fighters.

I can't think of who they could replace Mir with, there aren't any main event fighters available at the moment... They'll probably just scrap this fight and get on with the move to the UFC for DC

apparently Showtime has in their contract that he fights once more in Strikeforce...so unless, the UFC wants to break that agreement they will need to offer some settlement or just send over any HW...

He was going to get destroyed single handedly. They probably just got around to watching a couple tapes of Cormier and got flashbacks of the Carwin fight.

Werdum and Cormier are friends. DC was talking about some app on the iPhone he really liked that translated his texts into Portuguese so him and Werdum could chat. I don't really wanna see them fight. I hope Werdum gets a Big Nog rematch and a rematch with JDS. He said he wants to retire after a JDS rematch, IIRC.

So annoying having so many main events collapsing due to injury in MMA lately, this isnt one i was overly excited about but i still would of stayed up til 6am to watch it
