n Saturday, the Broncos added depth to their secondary — and perhaps their return game — by signing safety Jim Leonhard.

Leonhard, entering his eighth NFL season, has played in 94 career games, starting 60. He has 309 career tackles, 3.5 sacks, six interceptions, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown in his career.

He has also fielded 82 punts and returned 12 kickoffs in his career.

“We’ve signed free-agent safety Jim Leonhard,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said via Twitter. “He’ll add experience and depth to our secondary.”

Leonhard spent his last three NFL seasons with the New York Jets. Prior to that he spent one year with the Baltimore Ravens and three with the Buffalo Bills.

The 5-foot-8, 188-pound safety discussed his signing on Twitter.

“It’s never a bad day to sign an NFL contract,” Leonhard tweeted. “I’m proud to be a Denver Bronco. Time for work.”

Salute to you Jim, you were the man when you were healthy... especially for someone your size.

Hope he's healthy and can play the season out.

a 5'8 dude vs Baby Jesus... are you kidding me? Jim tried but failed, its ok, I wasn't mad at him.

But our Bigger, hard hitting SS... yeah... he beat Smith like 3 times that game... ran right past him too....

Too many injuries, if he's healthy it's a good pick up though. Won't happen [pic]
