> Fightmetric Says That Frankie Edgar Won the Fight vs Henderson - Photo posted in BX SportsCenter | Sign in and leave a comment below!Frankie Edgar went into UFC 150 looking to regain the UFC Lightweight Championship and ended up leaving empty-handed after a remarkably close fight with champion Benson Henderson.

Many who saw the fight believed that Edgar was the winner and apparently that includes the folks over at MMA statistics website Fightmetric.com.

According to their stats, Edgar landed 66 significant strikes to Henderson's 60 and 70 total strikes to Henderson's 65. Edgar was also given the edge in grappling, achieving two takedowns to Henderson's zero and going for two submissions to Henderson's one.Based on these figures, FM suggests that the fight should have been ruled a draw based on the ten-point must scoring system used by the UFC and based on their own scoring system, Edgar was the winner.

This is odd news, considering that the after the fight, the figures that aired on the pay-per-view conveyed that Henderson was the one who landed more total strikes and this information was given right before the judges rendered their decision.

The decision has been made and will stand as final, but as more and more information becomes available, it seems like the judges may have made the wrong call at UFC 150.

Of course, it is not the first time and will not be the last the judges botch—or arguably botch—a decision. It's just a shame there isn't anything that can be done when it happens. After all, losing this fight means that Edgar will likely never again fight for the lightweight belt and may even change weight classes.

Whereas, if Edgar had been awarded the win, he would have avenged every loss in his career, regained the belt, and an argument could have been made that he was the greatest lightweight in MMA history.

Crazy how one decision can change the landscape of MMA.

Not happening unless Frankie moves down, I doubt that will happen... It shouldn't take a very long win streak to get back in the mix

Edgar vs Maynard IV on deck? [pic]

the problem with summed stats is that the fight isn't judged in a summed fashion...

the way the stats are posted gives no context to if most of someone's strikes came in one round, or if the takedowns came in the same round as the larger strike number...

are these numbers available round-by-round? cuz that would be the only legitimate way to view numbers like this...

Edgar isn't going to fight Aldo coming off os two losses...he will need to fight a top contender first...

The link in the OP to FightMetric has a round by round breakdown... the numbers tell the same story of the fight as far as I remember, I thought Frankie took 2, 4 and 5...

Dont trust any of these numbers, not in boxing and sure as hell not in MMA.
