Rashard Lewis' 23.8 million dollar contract can be bought out for 13.7 million before July 1st. Trade saves New Orleans around 30 million?

What scary is they have to spend 85% of the salary cap so that means they are probably going to dish out some bad contracts this off-season.

If there is one thing that's always dangerous for a rebuilding team its having tons of cap space like this. I'm guessing they'll re-sign Gordon and Landry.
Resigning Gordon and maybe Kaman think Landry goes elsewhere might overpay Batum or Dragic I think? [pic]

lewis didn't do anything last year? cool doesn't matter

this isn't even about lewis's game or okafor's game kid..

30 million to spend, but they only have to spend around 20 of it to stay within league rules. They really only have money committed to 5 players (who will be with the team) next year. So they still have a bunch of spots to fill up. Even if those are low salaries it will take up some room.

If they resign Gordon that threshold will be easily met. They still have salaries to add from their 2 1st round picks which will take up 7.4 million dollars. Plus they have to shore up the rest of the roster. They will be fine.

Unless they trade Ariza and Okeafor they owe them 40 mill combined the next two years. The Hornets will only be on the hook for 13 of the 23 mill for Lewis.....Demps>>> [pic]

People who say who gives a !! about the salary cap have no understanding of the NBA. The NBA is all about the salary cap.

The NBA is chess not checkers

The Wizards are now better for next year. They will win more games (most likely) next year and they may sell more tickets

You don't become a contender by making stupid financial decisions just to get better. Bad contracts cripple teams for years. You build with[..]ets including quality young talent, draft picks, etc.

The Wizards made a good move to get out from under that Arenas contract. They have now reversed that with this trade. Over the last year they have taken on contracts from teams who want no part of them. ITS CRAZY, ITS STUPID

The best case scenario for this team is now squeezing into the playoffs. Now they are going to be that way for years to come. If your desire is to build a contender this is the worst move you could make. The team is now handcuffed for the next few years

You have to be willing to build if you suck. You have to make smart moves. Being a !!ty team is not the worst thing in the world (if you know how to draft good talent). You have a number 1 pick (John Wall) to build around.

Being mediocre is the worst thing for a team. You get stuck there. You can't get top draft picks because you are just good enough. Yet, you are never going to contend, because you are not good enough and you have no flexibility.

These kinds of moves are why Dwight wants to leave Orlando. These kinds of moves led to Lebron leaving Cleveland. These kinds of moves could lead to John Wall saying goodbye. The NBA...... where being !!ty is better than being mediocre (unless Jordan is making the draft picks).

I fully agree that being mired in mediocrity is not a good look at all, but this is a different situation. The Wizards have been mired in obscurity with NO games on national TV, a player in Wall that looked deflated having no veterans around him and a team that can't sell tickets unless they attach some sad gimmick.

Even with our 22 mil in cap space, free agents aren't comin to DC to be in this mess so they want to improve the reputation of the team for the next two years with actual professionals on the roster and show SOMETHING while having Okafor's, Ariza's deals expire. I believe it came down to Ted being too cheap to amnesty anyone and went this option.

That said, I don't expect that to be the only trade because of the log-jam in the frontcourt and a bare backcourt. If this is the only trade I'll be as pissed as I was when Ernie traded the 5th pick for Foye/Miller with Rubio/Steph Curry still on the board. [pic]

Perfect explanation for why the wiz lost on this trade. Wiz fans so used to the garbage EG puts together for a roster every year so having a shot at the 8 seed is a upgrade to them, Im so blown that we sacrificed a potentially great future for mediocrity. NO won because they have cap room and can build around Davis/Gordon with a new ownership change. And people hyping Ariza needa stop, he's not the same player he was on the lakers and cant even shoot over 40% yet people still think hes a knockdown shooter

I'm still a Wall stan even when he dips[pic]

Sidenote, Nats quietly becoming the 2nd team in town after the redskins, Ted Leonis needa fire EG

They have 2 picks, the 1st Round (#3) and the 2nd pick (#32) of the 2nd Round!
Blatche will more than likely be a victim of the amnesty, so overall this was a good trade.

Now they have alot of good vets to teach the younger players about what it takes to get to the playoffs. Personally I like the move especially if we get rid of Blatche and are able to get one or two more pieces.
