Darrelle Revis won't rule out holding out for a new contract

Two years after signing the deal that ended his training-camp holdout in 2010, Jets cornerback Darelle Revis did not rule out holding out this year for a new deal accoridng to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.

"I just don’t know. I'm not saying I am going to hold out; I'm not saying I'm not going to hold out," Revis said tonight, before being honored by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC for community work to benefit area youth. "Right now my focus is just being on the team. ... I'm getting ready for the 2012-13 season, that’s all I can do."

Why would the subject come up now? Revis signed a seven-year deal that voids to a four-year, $46 million deal if he does not hold out.

But at the time, the deal was thought to be a band-aid deal to end the lengthy holdout. GM Mike Tannenbaum called it an "intermediate" step toward keeping Revis with the Jets for the rest of his career.

Revis was reluctant to get into specifics at a charity event, though he did patiently answer questions about his contract situation, including if he is happy with his contract.

"Right now, what I'm trying to do is just be a part of this team, work hard, and that’s all I can say," he said. "My agent’s going to do the best for me and try to do what's best for me. It's my career, and I'm in control of what I can do. I know I'm under contract, and we’ll hash that out when the time comes."
