Cavaliers could take Otto Porter with No. 1 pick, according to report
topic by st21 - 05-28-2013, 08:38 PM - Boxden > BX SportsCenter

Otto Porter and Anthony Bennett appear to be the early favorites for the Washington Wizards' No. 3 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, but what if one or the other isn't there to be selected?

It might happen with Porter. The Cavaliers are thinking about using the No. 1 pick on him rather than Kentucky's Nerlens Noel, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post.

But there is a possibility that Porter, arguably the most NBA-ready player among the top prospects, might not be around when the Wizards pick third. A source with knowledge of the Cavaliers' thinking said Porter is under consideration to go No. 1

A few things about this rumor:

1.The Cavaliers have no incentive to make it seem like they've decided what they want to do with the No. 1 pick.

2.The Cavaliers are notoriously difficult to read. Nobody projected them to take Tristan Thompson or Dion Waiters, but they did. It later came out that Waiters was higher on their draft board than Bradley Beal.

3.The Cavaliers do have a major need for a small forward. The position is currently occupied by former Wizards castoff Alonzo Gee and the streaky C.J. Miles.

4.There's some logic to the idea that the Cavaliers would prefer to have someone who will actually be on the court next year over a player with a torn ACL. They appear serious about wanting to stop the tanking/asset accumulation and actually try to move forward this summer.

All this is to say that this won't be the last time Porter will be rumored to go No. 1.

Said this was a real possibility when they won the lottery. He is the only player that high who fits a specific immediate need for them. I wouldn't be mad if they did

I'm not too sold on Porter yet either to be honest. Dude seems like Evan Turner. I think he has a chance to do better though because Turner was totally ball-dominant at OSU, whereas Porter can play both with and off the ball.

Hopefully he winds up more like a Tayshaun Prince type who has a high bball IQ and always knows what to do and where to be on the floor.

Please Jesus.

I'm praying to Sweet Baby Jesus we draft OP and trade up for Alex Len.

Nerlen Noels weight 200 lbs for a 6'11 C with a blown out knee. You can have his no offensive game having a$s.

OP and Lex.

Kawhi Leonard

Otto Porter is def not a #1 Pick. I'd take Noel. Higher ceiling and I don't think Porter will get them in the playoffs anytime soon.

Noel is a legitimate franchise big on the defensive end.

The long lengthy defensive hustlemen are most of the time experienced in college and can be drafted later.

Leonard, Tayshaun, Wallace, Batum, Wilson Chandler.

Then you have the guys like Al Farouq Aminu, Wesley Johnson, and Corey Brewer who aren't as much of a prospect now, but were all drafted early.

Take Noel and get you a SF elsewhere, it's not a difficult spot to fill at all, especially with Cap Space.

That's a huge risk. It's one thing that it's a ACL injury it's another that it's a big man with a ACL injury.

The Cavs been rumored to take Otto for the longest regardless of winning the lotto so it looks like a no brainer for me.

I'm just wondering which team is gonna get Wiggins next year.
