But that's the thing the Knicks FO made it clear that we actually WANTED Jeremy to test out his free agent market value, see how much he'll get & we'll gladly match it. That insures that Jeremy will get much more money than us straight up signing his offer sheet. Instead this is what Lin did:

The Knicks were bitter because they told Lin immediately the club would match the original offer and Lin apparently shared the information with the Rockets. Lin and Houston then plotted to redo it.

Lin secretly flew into Las Vegas without informing the Knicks to renegotiate the contract and sign it.

So in Lin doing so the Rockets gave Lin a big contract with a ridiculous third year which prompted Melo to speak on the contract not Lin getting the contract. That's why I also posted those other quotes in my original post to show clarity.

This shouldn't be made as Melo is jealous or Melo is talking down on Lin, maybe he should've been clearer but he wasn't trying to !! on him.

if he meant the unusual structure of the contract, that's one thing, but it sure didn't come out that way. you never mess with another player's paper, and not only that, but he !! on the entire fraternity of NBA players if he implied somebody is overpaid coming out of a lockout year. that quote may come up in the next CBA negotiatons [pic].

even worse though, is that he basically said "felton's all we got, so we're stuck with him," which isn't a real strong vote of confidence [pic].
