BREAKING NEWS: Manager Mourinho leaves Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally left Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard.

The news comes just 24 hours after the disappointing Champions League draw against Rosenborg.

Legard understands that Mourinho has texted senior players, including skipper John Terry, with the news of his departure from Stamford Bridge.

There has been no official word so far from the Premiership club.

Mourinho joined Chelsea in the summer of 2004 and led them to the Premiership title in his first two seasons in charge.

Last season they finished runners-up to Manchester United but won both the FA Cup and Carling Cup, a trophy they had also collected in 2005.

However the Champions League eluded the club and this season's campaign started with Tuesday's shock 1-1 result against the Norwegians.

Very sad news IMO. If he was given 100% authority over footballing matters, I'm quite sure that he'd still be here - and Chelsea would be performing a lot better than they are at the moment. I'm sure, as a manager, he was not pleased with all of the requests & signings that were made by others in the organization. (Ballack / Shevchenko)

He's one of the best managers in the world, and will surely be missed. Very disheartening news, I don't think any replacement will be able to fill Mourinho's shoes.

5 trophy's in 3 years - No losses at the Bridge in the league. Very very good track record - will be remembered fondly for sure. Chelsea legend.

Chelsea name Grant as new manage

helsea have confirmed that Avram Grant has replaced Jose Mourinho as the new manager at Stamford Bridge.

The Israeli, who was the club's director of football, will take charge alongside Steve Clarke.

"The club is delighted in Avram we have an experienced man who can come in at a difficult time," said a club statement.

BBC Sport revealed the news on Thursday morning as Mourinho spent time saying goodbye to players at the club's training ground in Cobham, Surrey.
