Whether baseball's tarnished home run king is a Hall of Famer won't be determined for months, but in Barry Bonds' mind, he belongs in Cooperstown.

"Oh, without a doubt. There's not a doubt in my mind," Bonds said in a recent interview with MLB.com at San Francisco's AT&T Park. The Hall of Fame ballot will be released in November. Final voting will be announced in January. Bonds will be appearing on the ballot for the first time, alongside fellow greats such as Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Roger Clemens, who also were connected to performance-enhancing drugs during their careers.

Bonds hit 762 home runs and won seven MVP awards during a 22-year career that ended in 2007.

"I respect the Hall of Fame, don't get me wrong. I really, really, really respect the Hall of Fame. And I think we all do," Bonds told MLB.com. "I love the city of San Francisco and to me that's my Hall of Fame. I don't worry about it because I don't want to be negative about the way other people think it should be run. That's their opinion, and I'm not going to be negative. "I know I'm going to be gone one day. If you want to keep me out, that's your business. My things are here in San Francisco. These are the people who love me. This is where I feel I belong. This is where I want to belong. If [the voters] want to put me in there, so be it, fine. If they don't, so be it, fine."

Bonds continues to fight his April 2011 conviction of one count of obstruction of justice, in which a trial jury found he gave an evasive answer in 2003 to a grand jury investigating illegal steroids distribution. The jury deadlocked on three counts of making false statements, charges that then were dropped.

He was sentenced in December to 30 days of house arrest, two years' probation and a $4,000 fine.

After his Giants contract expired after the 2007 season, Bonds wanted to continue playing but could not find a job. He told MLB.com that he was disappointed in the way his career flamed out. "I will never agree with that at all. But at the same token, I had a great 22 years," the 48-year-old Bonds said. "Would I have liked things to have been different? Sure, I would have loved them to be different. On one side of it, I'm disappointed. I should have been able to play one more year. That's all I wanted. Play the one more year in San Francisco. I knew one more year would have been it for me. That's what I wanted to do. It didn't work out that way.

"I have no animosity toward anyone. I'm very grateful. This is my hometown. I have family here. I don't have fans, these people are my family and I love them to [rip]. I played for them and performed for them. I was lucky."
I agree with him. Barry Bonds is simply a HOFamer. I'm a Dodger fan and even I will admit that.. as much as I dislike the man as a human being. What gets me is that nobody ever talks about the fact that every generation of baseball seems to have it's own argument of why certain players should not be in the HOF. Should every player before the color barrier was broken in 1947 be excluded since they didn't play against the best players in the world? Should every player before 1969 be refused entrance to the Hall since the mound was lowered five inches from 15 to 10 inches? Did Bonds take steroids? Undoubtedly...no questions. Absolutely. Did it allow him to have the hand eye coordination (best that baseball has ever seen) that he had? No! Bottom line is that Bonds was unlikeable and that is on him, but he is still the best baseball player of his generation and to deny him the HOF would be an absolute travesty. All the people who would deny him entrance are doing so based purely on their personal feelings towards the guy and are wrong.

I'm a die hard Giants fan and I don't think Barry Bonds belongs in the Hall of Fame.

If somehow he's voted in, then by proxy you have to put in Pete Rose, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, Alex Rodriguez, Andy Pettitte, Jose Canseco, Raphael Palmeiro, ETC.

What?

He's arguably (in my opinion) the greatest player of all time. He would still be a HOF player if he didn't juice.

It's not easy for me to say that. I used to love the dude. I rooted for him hard to get the 73 homers in '01 and win the World Series in '02.

But the dude is a cheater.

Does the juice help your hand eye coordination? No... That was god given.
But the juice definitely helped him with the homers that went over the fence that shoulda been fly outs to the outfield.

well considering almost everyone cheated then, and a lot still do, doesn't it put him on an even playing field?

bonds was putting up insane numbers when everyone was cycling, so it doesn't mean !! imo

I guess.

At the same time, after Bonds was done I got an entirely new appreciation for guys like Ken Griffey Jr., Derek Jeter, and Chipper Jones. Clean...

He had HOF numbers even before he was suspected of using roids in 99

So did Clemens when he was in Boston.

As far as I know he did start juicing until he went to Toronto and later to the New York.[pic]

The list is much bigger than that bro..

Plus why Canseco? He's not a member of the 500 club that typically gets you automatically in on the first ballot. And Sosa's the strikeout king... but he should still get in.. Palmy was definitely embarrassing, but he should be in. But I think Rose not being in Cooperstown is one of the biggest injustices in sports today. A-Rod should be in the all. Pettite should be as well (Although possibly not first ballot). Every one of the players you listed has a great resume and should be admitted in the Hall (Except for maybe Canseco) And a lot of them were using products that technically weren't even banned at the time. I say let them in.... Especially bonds

700+ homers
73 in a season
500+ stolen bases
nearly 3000 hits
nearly 2000 RBIs
14x All-Star
7x MVP
12x Silver Slugger
8x Gold Glove
led league in homers 3 times

Not to mention that the main argument is not that the juice turns your pop ups in to deep fly balls, but that it works on your endurance and stamina and allows you to play the longer, harder. Dude is one of the greatest players of all time and already had hall of fame credentials before the rumors even started. He's right... He should without a doubt be in Cooperstown... And I'm not even really a fan [pic]
