49ers' Jim Harbaugh planning for Saints victory; Lions take notice

Most national pundits expect the New Orleans Saints to beat the Detroit Lions in Saturday’s playoff opener (8 p.m., NBC), and by the sound of it, at least one prominent NFL coach agrees.

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh told a Bay Area radio station today that he’s spending the majority of his team’s bye this week preparing to face the Saints.

The 49ers can’t play the Lions until the NFC championship game -- as the No. 6 seed, the Lions would face the top-seeded Green Bay Packers in the divisional round if they win Saturday -- but Harbaugh said he was studying the Saints more than either of his team’s other possible second-round opponents, the New York Giants and the Atlanta Falcons.

“More the Saints,” Harbaugh said on 95.7-FM The Game. “The greater share would be preparing for the Saints.”

And is that just playing the percentages of what will happen this weekend?

"Yeah, yeah, it is," Harbaugh said.

The Lions are double-digit underdogs for their first playoff game in 12 years and did lose to the Saints in December, 31-17. Still, Harbaugh's semi-prediction didn't sit well in the Lions locker room.

“I don’t know if it was meant as a slight,” defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said. “I don’t know. It’s probably best that I don’t comment on that.”

Not sure why they would take ths as disrespect. They need to use the bye week to their advantage...if you're not actually game planning on somebody other then getting rest its a wasted week
