Questions about music video budget...

 Questions about music video budget...
By pocketchange - 11-05-2012, 09:08 AM - Boxden > BX Paintworks

I know this is going to be a hard question to answer because I don't want to reveal the movie, but how much do you guys think it will cost to do a decent movie adaptation in a music video?

Let's say you want to do a movie adaptation of Menace 2 Society. I know it would be sort of hard to do this because the era this move was released, but I'm just using this as an example. I'm on a low budget, y'all think a movie adaptation to a movie that didn't have a big budget could be pulled off? For about $5,000k or less with todays technology? I think it can be done cheaper than 5k.

This movie is still kinda temporary and I don't think we'll need any costumes, I think the big problem will be location and extras.

I would want to find a director who could shoot it in a way people will know we are adapting the movie, but I want it to be sort of modern.

I'm thinking we just need to find key scenes and shots in the movie we know we can pull off, get extras that sort resemble the people in the movie, pick locations that's sort of like the movie, have the artist and extras do things that resemble the movie.

What kind of budget do you need for this? I think you'll spend more time planning and finding locations than actually shooting the video.

And if you guys know some nice directors in Houston then hit me with their information.

Budget is a subjective term. Your asking an unanswerable question.

What the next person can achieve with $5,000, it may only take you $2,500 and vice versa.

Your best bet is to invest in a good producer and practice frugality, just remember you get what you pay for..

The movie I'm talking about adapting was a low budget movie compared to Hollywood bidgets, especially nowadays.

You saw the Rick Ros video "Push It"? They redid the Scarface, but they really didn't "remake" it they just adapted the script.

And that's what we want to do, but this movie doesn't require having mansions and crazy cars because the movie is not based around being rich.

We want it to be more like a music video than a movie though, just similar shots and styles.

I've seen some good short films done with practically no budgets, I'm sure the director should already have most the equipment needed.

These films right here were practically done for Campus Movie Fest with no or hardly any budget and they are beyond what I'm aiming for.

I think you have the answer to your own question, remaking something is kinda like taking the shots and style of the film. As far as budget it depends on what your gonna do. If your gonna do a video and use a scarface influence where you get the girl and a blimp comes bye saying the world is yours, what do you need a blimp or green screen? So your budget depends on you. You can't ask a question about a budget without really saying what it is your doing though.

I guess the best way to answer, if you want to do green screen you need money to rent a green screen set. If you doing a hood flick you really just need what ever they had in the scene that will tell people hey this is a remake or tribute to that.

I dont see too much money invested? its all about the locations and the artist doing a good job..

..if you already have the cameras and !!...i dont see where the other money would be spent..

most extras you will get will probably be in their crew willing to do it for free..
