Incredible video, I wish this was longer to show more of the process.

I loved the logo before seeing this video, now I'm even more amazed at the philosophy behind it. Most definitely one of my favorite branding projects in the last few years.

The fact that they created countless fonts alone is crazy. When I'm auditioning fonts, after about the 200th one.. it might as well be a 2 year olds hand writing. My eyes are shot at that point.

I hate doing typography based logos -- too many technicalities, not enough creativity for my taste. Much respect to them, but I'm sure they got paid reaaalll nice for this project.

I think the company that did the London 2012 logo got paid ~$900k...

Ridiculous..

I read that Wolff Olins got paid roughly $600,000 for that logo. And it's one of the worst logos I've ever seen -- the Olins firm has a habit of over-conceptulizing; they end up focusing more on hidden meanings and symbology and forget about making an actually good design. They're also behind the recent AOL rebranding campaign, which was a mess too.

But that's the kind of money that gets tossed around when you're designing identities for grand scale international events like the Olympics.

If the London 2012 brand is worth $600K, the creatives behind Rio 2016 deserve at the very LEAST $1,000,000!

[pic] Hired. Wolff Olins is one of the biggest design firms in the entire world. They're behind some of the most classic/recognizable brand campaigns in history.

I would've k!lled it. Then again, if I got paid $600,00 for one project, I probably wouldn't be doing sh-t for a few years.

as a very serious businessman (j/k) I have to say that they took an L on this one
why can't they just contact a young, talented artist like you, save thousands of dollars and even get a better final result.... the final result is everything

lol I could only imagine the media backlash if Eric was chosen to design the olympic logo for a few thousand dollars.

Nah, I'd never do it for a few thousand. I wouldn't do it for anything less than 6 figures -- maybe not $600K, but I know better than to charge the Olympics regular prices.

Plus it's more than just the logo, it's an entire campaign of commercials and collateral.

The London logo is not the greatest logo in the world but it works.

I'm more impressed with the brand campaign than the logos itself.

People are quick to criticize the logos but don't seem to understand that is only a small part of a ridiculously huge visual identity.

Although you're right that it's a small piece of the puzzle, it's also the forefront of any successful brand campaign. What's the point of having awesome applications and uses of a logo that looks like crap?

The fact they thought this was a good idea to move forward with shows how out of touch these major firms are.

It's def. not the worst Olympic logo i've ever seen, i kinda like how it breaks away from what you expect from an Olympic logo.

I hated that logo at first but it went nicely with everything else. Not many designers can design a logo that is versatile enough to be broken down and spread across all types of media.

I think a lot of designers focus way too much on how "cool" something looks and not message. The message is the forefront of any brand campaign, not the logo. For something that was meant to target a younger generation, i think it works.

There's a reason these agencies are being paid thousands if not millions for their work, and it def. isn't for being out of touch lol.
