Any of You Ever Think About Making Money on a GFX E-book?

Any of You Ever Think About Making Money on a GFX E-book?

I started this post in the financial spot, and wanted to tell people in the production section, but they either got rid of that, or made it into a subsection. I also had the idea of letting the real graphic designers in on it.

I've been a member since...forever, even on a previous screen name. I think since 2002 or so, so this isn't spam or anything.

An e-book is something you write, design, and sell electronically. It's supposed to show a new way of doing things, or teach and inform the reader.

There are sites that will do the selling for you, you just put a link on your site. You can collect the money through a system like Paypal.

Here is one of the steps that I talked about in my blog:

Step 1. What are you writing about?

E-books, free e-books, phony e-books, and stolen e-books packaged as something else are everywhere. This stuff is big business. Read my previous post about a digital photography expert who shared his knowledge with people in the form of an e-book and made $72,000 in less than 10 days.

Think about that. He got paid to write and provide information about something he already loved.

E-books have to teach something, reveal something, or show a new way to look at a topic. Sometimes you can do the leg work and provide free information all in one spot, although you shouldn't expect too many people to buy it.

So let's bring this back to hip hop. What can you write about in the hip hop world? There is a ton to write about! Hip Hop is big business (for better or for worse, but that's another topic). There are many popular forums/message boards regarding hip hop. You can write about how to market products through them. There are many hip hop gossip sites now. You can write about creating one, or tell someone how the most popular ones succeed. I don't want to give you all of my ideas, create your own so you can start building an audience and making money.
You can read the rest and the follow up posts here-www.themannsworld.com

So...have any of you thought about it? I'm talking about hitting on the mixtape/flyer design market. Some of you pros out there could easily find people that would pay to make mixtape covers like you. You won't give away all of your secrets or anything, but people would pay to see 1 method with amazing results.

Read some of the stuff posted on my site about it, or post here and let me know what you think.

Godaddy.com is selling domains for 99 cents. You need to pay for hosting of course but it would make sense to buy something now for a future idea.

sounds like a good idea but the thing is finding the time to do it,!! is hectic these days. People complaining about the recession, serious designers who just haven't made it yet are working hard with graphics and have to get 9-5s to keep money in they pockets, atleast that's how it is for me but I know i'm not the only one

True, true. I hear ya.

But for most they would just need to approach it like another design project.

More tips can be found at but here is what you would have to do for a Hip Hop Ebook focusing on graphic design.

1. Have your ideas on paper.
2. Set up your design in microsoft office or open office.
3. Make sure you have pictures and screenshots of all of your steps for a mixtape cover design, or whatever your project is.
4. Make sure everything is set up like an actual book. Table of contents, preface, intro., etc.
5. Insert your explanation of each step.
6. Make sure you design "cover art" for your book as well.

There are a few minor steps in between of course, but this is a pretty solid outline. If anyone is thinking about it I would suggest doing it one step out of time, and it doesn't have to be in order.
