there's a difference between DDR3 and DDR5 people

I[..]ume you are aware that Xbox 360 has 512MB of GDDR5 as both system and vram memory [one unified pool]? :D

Both new consoles will have unified pools, Durango with DDR and Orbis with GDDR. Cheap DDR will allow larger variety of[..]ets and better texture resolution, but GDDR will allow much faster transfer times, lower latencies, better streaming. In the end, both consoles will end up with very simmilar visuals, but they will be achieved with different rendering tactics.

They're looking very close in terms of both power and design.

I don't see it as Sony being cheap fast ram does have a advantage in certain things .
If they go with slower ram like MS they going to need something to help it .

The OP needs to be clarified on the memory front, as everyone is mixing up the memory. I made the same mistake when I skimmed it quick.

GDDR is not the same as DDR.

From the way it's sounding, the PS4 is going to have dedicated memory for the games and will (probably) have a separate pool for everything else (1 - 2 gb?).

While the xbox is going to just have one giant pool of (albeit slower) memory for everything.

If these numbers are to be believed, would it mean Orbis has significantly faster RAM while the Durango simply has more?

Maybe that's Sony's way of speeding up loads and installs, overall- going the Gamecube route in terms of memory.

Those specs are meaningless if we dont know how much they have modified those PC parts, what new special things did they introduce [durango has few secret sauces], and what is the general look of their architecture [we dont know if they will use stacking or not].

Performance can vary dramatically with slight changes of those things. One thing is certain, currently ON PAPER, both consoles will be ~10x than their predecessors [again we will have consoles of similar performance levels].

4g GDDR5 console will absolutely murk everything out there. What do you mean it's not enough?

and OS doesn't have to take GDDR5. Sony can just put cheap[..] DDR3 512m ram there just for OS. Bam. problem solved.

The PS1 and 2 were technologically weaker, yet still were the victors of their generations. If the Orbis is reasonably close enough to the 720 in spec, it really doesn't matter. It comes down to developers who understand how to utilize those innard bells and whistles of hardware. Nintendo's 3DS is inferior to the Vita in many ways, but a developer as skilled as Capcom (takes the time to understand what makes 3DS tick), makes the handheld sing in ways you wouldn't believe.

I believe the power of Obis/720, will be indistinguishable when looking at the games side by side. You'll have certain games, which can pull off things on one system, that the other doesn't do as well (think fur rendering GCN vs. XBox 1).

I project that this upcoming generation will be decided by value placed on the systems by their publishers (incentives like PS+, Live infrastructure) and first party exclusives. In any case, my eye is on Sony, as they have a bigger opportunity to surprise me as a gamer, than MS. I feel MS is just going to have a brute strength machine, an extension of current 360 - with no real individuality/identity. Hence my disinterest, even as a sole 360 owner.

According to these rumors, the PS4 has a GPU which is about 500 GFLOPS faster and a memory configuration, which is a lot faster than the one rumored for the nextbox. More RAM is more comfortable for developers, but why choose this slow RAM when you have streaming technology etc?

Yeah and outside of Xbox fanboys' head, that happened with the 360 vs the PS3. Both will be very good consoles, though the PS4 will be the better of the two.

PS 2 only won because it had the MUCH MUCH better game library it was in last place in power behind the Gamecube...

games will run any system of course (well unless you're the 360 and you have a great online component)


but I Was referring to in terms or sheer power... 8 core & 8gb is better then 4 core and 2 - 4 gb... even with GDDR vs ddr3

PS4's CPU won't be faster, just a higher clock. GDDR is faster but the the New Box has double the memory so it balances out.
