User Created Mario Stages Are A Possibility

User Created Mario Stages Are A Possibility
By Da Ill One - 12-28-2012, 08:28 PM - Boxden > BX GameSpot

In an interview with GamesTM magazine, Masataka Takemoto, the director of New Super Mario Bros. U was asked about the possibility of user created Mario stages.

He had this to say:

I think the Coin Edit feature in Coin Battle is a step closer to that. There is a possibility of this happening in the future, but there’s no use just blindly making that feature available. We would need to carefully think about how to make such a system work. The important thing is that it has to be something that is uniquely Nintendo. Where a beginner can easily make something and have a good time, and simultaneously, someone who is really into Mario can delve into it deeper and make something more complex. So that is a challenge we will need to tackle in the future.

Currently Coin Battle Mode is the closest players can get to creating a level, allowing users to play coins within levels. A level editor would be perfect for New Super Mario Bros. U, giving players even more play-time out of their favorite game.

Being able to share levels and compete for the communities favorites would add something more to the game.

That's a great idea, not sure why they haven't done this yet...but that would definitely be dope...

my post was regarding the level design... Little Big Planet has already done it... so if we're to say Sony copies !! from Nintendo, then what the !! is Nintendo doing here? LBP is a platformer like Mario, but also allows users to create their own levels. Mario has never done that before... so if 'copying' proven methods is stealing, then its fair to say Nintendo is jocking a Sony exclusive here...

although, I do think LBP >>>> Mario in general

to each his own...

it felt off at first to me also but that's just cause not a lot of platformers use that floaty mechanic, but once you're used to it, playing it becomes as easy as playing any Mario game... and its more fun too and a lot more creativity goes into each level...

ok, yeah i agree now that you've explained it [pic] Mario doesn't allow you to make whole new games within it.
