It is inspired by Smash bros but the mechanics and feel of the game isn't like Smash. I know because I had the beta and played it extensively. Others did too.

| | Because of the changes to the Smash Bros. formula, All-Stars is a much more complex and chaotic game (at first). For a concept with such mass appeal, this fighter has one of the steepest learning curves in recent memory, because it requires you to forget everything you know about the genre. Even when you wrap your head around the game’s controls and combat, you’ll need to relearn so much as you go from character to character since they each play differently............................ If Sony wanted a Smash clone, they have failed. Because what they have is something much more, unique and special with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. | |

That's a early preview about the beta. The game's come along way since from looking at the most recent videos but until you play the game you won't really understand.
I rather this be more if a true fighter, make it like the new MK or Soul Calibur even with large
characters on screen. |
Nah that would be stupid. Certain characters wouldn't lend right to this type of game. Radec for example is mostly long range based and as is wouldn't fit a MK type game.
This game just looks FAR AWAY with the characters looking tiny and !!. I don't see this game
selling at all because of the way it is designed, looks sluggish/slow/characters seem to be floating and jumping silly around. |
Yea I agree about the camera being far away. I think that's something they're tweaking towards release. Also sluggish slow characters?? No they're actually pretty fast to be honest. Compared to Smash it feels slow because you don't run in this or dash. Coming into this trying to play it like Smash will disappoint.
I would had like this game to be a standard fighter NOT a wannabe Smash Bros, Raiden vs Dante
in this game looks silly, now imagine them in a Soul Calibur like design....that's what I wanted. |
Hey like I said don't knock it until you try it. They are doing a poor job at getting people to see what the game is like through videos. It'd be great if Superbot would release updated 1 v 1 matches from the top players at the studio like Ed ma and Clockwork to show how it can be played competitively.
I'm not telling you it has 14 button combo depth but depth nonetheless. You can actually chain combos together in this so that alone creates more depth than Smash Bros.
I heard in a dev interview that some characters have their own fighting system that allows them to play true to their character like Dante. He can cancel his sword attacks into gun attacks and something else.
Try the beta next week I think they're updating it to a newer build and is public idk.
